Takapuna House

Website

This family home is situated on a double site upon a sea cliff over looking the Waitemata Harbour.  The house and pool are set back from the cliff edge with an engineered palisade wall built with a series of deep concrete piles to protect the site.

The family had a comprehensive brief, wanting a low maintenance house for visiting guests and large play areas for their children. Sang Architects created a 'H-shaped' plan with a 20m link connecting the entry wing with the main house. The large 2 x 6m tall Sang Door welcomes guests into the generous arrival hall.

Guest accommodation is located in the entry wing. The main house has the living spaces with its kitchen, dining and formal lounges and Tatami Room opening out to the east courtyard and infinity pool. The main bedrooms with ensuites and bathrooms are upstairs.

The house is a solid durable concrete and steel structure clad with granite and plaster. Solar heating warms the pool. Water is harvested from the roof and stored in an underground water tank.
