Kāinga Ora’s flagship housing development, Te Mātāwai (139 Greys Ave), comprises of 276 new homes and is the largest, single-site supported development by Kāinga Ora to date.
Featurecraft worked alongside project contractors to create a product suitable for the lobby's ceiling. The brief requested large Rimu battens that achieved a certain weight per meter. The outcome, Fire-rated MDF battens with a Rimu Veneer and a hollowed center, enabling the battens to come in well under the building's weight restrictions. Featurecraft’s 25mm acoustic backing panels were installed beneath to assist with acoustic requirements.
The site runs close to Waihorotiu Stream, therefore the interiors have been designed to reflect the surrounding water and its tikanga. The Rimu battens honour this with their subtle rippled formation.
This modern urban village combines public housing with supportive services designed for people who need it most.
