The material palate uses precast concrete and steel. A precast concrete form holds the more intimate areas of the house from bedrooms to night living. The layout pivots around a light filled central stairway. The precast concrete panels have a shuttered timber finish and the form gives the feeling of solidity and enclosure.

Juxtaposed to the concrete mass is the use of a steel structure. The steel structure gives the appearance of lightness and airiness. This light filled structure houses the family room and outside room. The house sits in the south west corner of the site with pool and terraces falling to the north, elevated enough to give the sense of security and privacy from the surrounding streets.

The house has been recognised with a New Zealand Institute of Architect’s Local Award in 2007.
