The design concept for the holiday home where a professional Auckland couple would be able to host their family and friends, consisted of exploring the combination of the rustic style of Otago with a luxury, high-end lodge experience. By using strategically selected materials throughout the space, the result was a sophisticated approach to the relaxed, rural style of the region. From floor to ceiling Manhattan marble slabs featured in the bathroom to a locally sourced Schist stone covering the fireplace in the alfresco lounge area, the feeling of serene opulence is ensured throughout.
Evoking a family gathering and entertaining-friendly atmosphere was a crucial requirement for the home and therefore the kitchen, completely designed from scratch, is centrally placed between the living room, dining room and snug. This strategic zoning of the kitchen in the centre, complete with a four metre long Manhattan marble island top and a La Cornue oven, ensures it is literally the heart of the house. The finished result is a space that has a welcoming, rustic charm but with an air of glamour and comfortable sophistication.
