When an Auckland family needed to extend their small ex-state house to create more room and connection with the outdoors, the mid century character inspired a resort-like transformation.
The curved wall gives the backyard privacy and offers an intriguing architectural element.
The carport was built to look like it's floating.
The new extension features champagne anodised aluminium joinery for a mid-century flavour.
There's excellent indoor/outdoor flow through full-height joinery.
The kitchen was designed with a strong mid-century aesthetic.
The back wall of the kitchen doesn't go all the way to the ceiling, giving a sense of spaciousness.
The new extension is a step down from the original house.
The original part of the house was rejuvenated too.
The lounge sits back to back with the kitchen and features a sunken conversation pit.
The conversation pit is formed into the concrete foundation.
The master suite is accessed through the lounge.
The master en suite features a mid-century materiality.
The new pool area and pool house gives the home a resort-like vibe.
