Wainscoting was installed in the entrance, hallway and stairway to match existing wainscoting in the home. It is constructed from a combination of solid maple and hardwood ply. In order for the wainscoting design to work with the original rimu skirting the skirting was first all removed, refinished and the thickness reduced. The hardwood ply which forms the panels of the wainscoting was then attached to the wall followed by the stiles, rails and cap, all of which were custom machined by Quartersawn.
Being an old house none of the walls were perfectly plumb or square so the wainscoting was all fitted onsite, with particular care taken to fit it perfectly around the existing window mouldings. Once the wainscoting was all installed the refinished rimu skirtings were all reinstalled.
