Sometimes less is more, and that is definitely the case with a new range of strikingly simple open gas fireplaces, Jetmaster Horizon. We talk to The Fireplace Ltd about the potential and future of gas fires in New Zealand homes.

Gas fireplaces are a classic addition to any room – a way to create an unparalleled ambiance, and with the addition of powerful heating technology, open gas fires can be used as more than a purely decorative element.

Due to the effectiveness of whole-house central heating systems, gas fires are still often installed primarily for their aesthetic value. As their design continues to evolve and develop, fresh, sleek finishes are evident, as is a pared back understated ethos.

A new range of Australian-made fires distributed in New Zealand by The Fireplace is testament to just this, with a contemporary selection of open gas fires that push the boundaries of form and function.

Horizon Gas Fireplace: The Perfect Centerpiece Fireplace For Modern Houses

With a focus on slimline design, the Horizon range of fires incorporate a floating burner and hidden controls that allow the entire visual focus to be on the fire itself.

The Horizon range was designed for the modern homeowner who wants clean lines and versatility of design along with ease of use,” technical manager of The Fireplace, Gordon Subritzky says.

Each fire in the Horizon range can be installed with an optional 240v heat zone kit, which turns the decorative fire into an effective and powerful heat source.  “The open fires deliver fantastic radiant heat, and the ducted chamber at the top of the fire delivers warm air from the firebox to a vent which can be placed anywhere in the room,” Gordon says.

“Horizon burners have also been designed so the flame permeates through the ceramic material

placed on the top of the vermiculite thereby ensuring a glow from the ceramic material.

“Many other fires cannot do this without obtaining dirty burning and sooting. With the Horizon fires, glow and heat output enters the room quickly due to the ceramic material not only glowing but radiating heat at the same time.”

Horizon Cantilever Gas Fires: Ensure a stunning presence in your home!

Cantilevered gas fires are a heavily favoured option at the moment, especially in apartments or rooms where a vertical flue can’t be installed. The Horizon cantilevered fires have a power flue option, which means there is no need for a traditional vertical flue.

Double sided fires are another oft-favoured option, especially as room dividers. “Double-sided fires are a great way to divide two rooms whilst keeping a refreshing, open feel.”

Three-sided gas fires create another visual dynamic. Horizon three-sided fires have completely concealed controls with a high flame that appears to float above the coal or pebble firebed.
