Defining spaces with flooring

Using floor installations to visually create or define spaces without the use of walls or partitions can add depth and functionality to open spaces.

A well defined or creative transition that is practical and simple with contrasting shapes and textures, can look stunning while also defining areas in open plan environments.

Glass walls are often used in these types of spaces for acoustic privacy which is often necessary for meeting areas in open plan space.

In the offices of LEO in Shanghai (first three images below), the wooden flooring in the meeting spaces transfuse into the tables tops, so they look like they are rising from the floor. The dark polished concrete background of the spaces, creates an innovative and modern ambiance.

Extending the design concept of visually defining space using flooring, we see walls and floors tied together to create their own unique spaces in open plan environments.
