Sophia Bristow, Managing Director of Eurotech Design, importer of United States brand Sub-Zero & Wolf luxury appliances for New Zealand, unveils the growing trend of luxury outdoor kitchens, where the boundaries between indoor and outdoor culinary spaces blend seamlessly. With a nod to the joy of alfresco dining, Sub-Zero & Wolf redefines the art of outdoor cooking, providing the tools for culinary exploration amidst nature's embrace.
Bristow educates ArchiPro on the importance of surgical-grade stainless steel, a hallmark of Sub-Zero & Wolf appliances. A focus on durability and longevity, these appliances not only withstand the test of time but also embrace the coastal lifestyle beloved by many, resisting corrosion even in the face of New Zealand and Australia’s salt-laden sea air.
"In New Zealand and Australia, we have such a long and beautiful summer, and people love cooking outdoors for three or four months of the year," says Bristow.
“The Sub-Zero & Wolf products elegantly resolve common issues with rust and deterioration of outdoor cooking appliances, with the use of surgical-grade or 304-grade stainless steel. This refers to the quality and durability of stainless steel. It’s non-ferrous and more corrosion-resistant, and it is manufactured with high craftsmanship and quality control.”
Sustainability emerges as a cornerstone of design in luxury appliance selections by specifiers and homeowners. Bristow emphasises the significance of energy efficiency, highlighting Sub-Zero & Wolf's commitment to minimising environmental impact through innovative technologies.
According to the Sub-Zero Group Inc. Sustainability Report (2020), 70 per cent of the stainless steel used in Sub-Zero & Wolf products is recycled. One hundred per cent of internal electronics are recycled, and packaging contains 64 per cent recycled content in its corrugated cardboard.
“Our appliances boast energy consumption equivalent to a mere 75W light bulb,” says Bristow. Sub-Zero and Wolf are paving the way towards a greener future, aligning seamlessly with New Zealand and Australia’s evolving sustainability standards.
Looking ahead, Bristow offers a glimpse into the future of luxury kitchen appliances, where innovation and versatility lead the way. Diverse refrigeration and cooking options empower homeowners to realise their culinary visions.
Bristow remarks on Sub-Zero & Wolf’s enhanced features, from individual shelf illumination within fridge interiors to innovative cleaning nanotechnology; every detail is meticulously crafted to elevate the culinary experience to new heights of excellence, precision and style–it’s luxury with substance.
“We offer numerous features, such as our CLEARSIGHT LED* lighting, which fully illuminates the interior, allowing you to see every shelf clearly, even removing shadows when a large platter is placed on the shelf above,” says Bristow.
“Our Nano-coated shelves, with its hydrophobic, spill-containing properties, ensure any liquid spills will pool around the edges of the shelf, avoiding mess and offering quick clean-up. Our Wolf cooking ovens provide precision in temperature control through VertiFlow* twin-fan system for multi-level cooking,” Bristow adds.
When it comes to other convenient features, Bristow says Sub-Zero refrigerators are front-vented and front-serviceable. “Once installed, it doesn’t need to come out ever again. We can access service data from the front, attend to maintenance and perform servicing activities all from the front, all with ease.”
Bristow explains specifiers and homeowners want customisation and personalisation options, from integrated designs to free-standing statement appliances commanding attention. The possibilities are as endless as the culinary creations they inspire.
"We have 75 refrigeration models and even more cooking models,” says Bristow. “Now, it's about what style and design you like; down to the toe-kick height and hinge design, we’ll have a product for you.”
“We are seeing contemporary kitchen designs with full integration, as well as classical-leaning designs featuring free-standing range cookers and fully exposed appliances framed by beautiful joineries.”
Bristow continues, “Integration solutions are popular at the moment; Sub-Zero’s durability and longevity make pairing with luxury kitchens the perfect match, setting a higher standard for kitchens.”
According to Bristow, luxury residences are still favouring a butler’s pantry to lock away the mess and have fun when entertaining, accompanied by a quality alfresco outdoor kitchen and dining space.
“In the main kitchen, we’re seeing preferences for a second oven, as well as a wine conditioner. These features make the kitchen stand out with a statement; it also increases the resale value of homes,” says Bristow.
As the culinary landscape continues to evolve, Sub-Zero & Wolf remain steadfast in its commitment to innovation, sustainability and unparalleled craftsmanship. With a finger on the pulse of the latest trends and a dedication to luxury culinary excellence, they pave the way for a future where every kitchen becomes a masterpiece of culinary pleasure.
