Alternative Solution for use of Timber Overlay Engineered Flooring where there are sanitary fixtures and sanitary appliances.

Product – Europlank and Kahrs Wooden Flooring

When used in accordance with the following methods both Europlank and Kahrs wooden flooring products may be used as an Alternative Solution for kitchen and laundries.

Service History

The Wooden Floor Company have supplied and installed both Europlank and Kahrs flooring products in the NZ market for over 30 years in a range of commercial and residential applications. These
products have been used extensively over a long period of time in global markets including installations in kitchens and laundries.

Glue Down Installation

Europlank and Kahrs wooden floor products should be installed in accordance with the Installation Methodology and if glued they should only be glued down with a suitable wood flooring adhesive. We recommend and use Mapei adhesives.

Damp Proof Membrane

Prior installation on a concrete slab or foundation, application of a damp proof membrane is required. We recommend and use Mapei moisture barrier products.

Installation To Prevent Gaps and Cracks

Europlank Flooring
Engineered for stability Europlank uses a plywood layered construction for maximum stability. The joints are a tongue and groove system. We would recommend a PVA glue application to all joints when installing to seal all four edges.

Kahrs Flooring
All Kahrs engineered wooden flooring is constructed in a way that results in a very stable plank, which minimises movement within the flooring. Kahrs flooring also uses a locking system. This allows each plank to be fixed together extremely tightly, eliminating any chance of gaps occurring.

Durable Coatings

All Europlank and Kahrs flooring are factory finished with at least four coats of polyurethane/laquer. These products are dust, water and stain resistant and are warranted by the manufacturer for use in kitchen and laundry applications. Specifically these finish options meet or exceed the requirements of E3/AS1 3.1.1. These coatings also assist with making the surface easy to clean.

Protect Joins within 1.5 Metres Of Sanitary Applications

In order to create an impervious surface near sanitary items and to help prevent moisture penetrating behind linings and/or into concealed spaces we recommend that in addition to our standard installation instructions the following:

  • Apply a waterproof flexible sealant to the perimeter of the flooring where the floor meets skirting or cabinetry within a 1.5 metre radius of any sanitary fitting.
  • Apply a waterproof flexible sealant to any penetrations of the flooring within a 1.5 metre radius of any sanitary fitting.

Cleaning

Europlank and Kahrs flooring is easily cleaned using a vacuum and a damp mop. Please refer to the Wooden Floor Company care and maintenance guide which includes cleaning and maintenance instructions to maintain and enhance the surface protection over its lifetime. These cleaning methods recommended are comparable to those required for other floor finishes that are still classified as an Acceptable Solution e.g. vinyl.
