With a pool business now under the Humphreys Landscaping umbrella, owner Scott Humphreys and design manager Jeremy Cole share how they apply their signature quality service and timeless design sensibility to every aspect of their clients’ pools and gardens.

Picture this: you’ve just arrived home from a long day of work. Shrugging off your coat, you step out the back door to an oasis of manicured hedges, freshly-mown lawns, and the gentle shimmer of a pool reflecting the soft evening sun. This may sound like the stuff of daydreams, but for Humphreys Landscaping’s clients, it’s reality.

With 30 years of experience transforming Auckland’s inner-city properties into slices of paradise, the team at Humphreys Landscaping is fluent in quality design.

With a keen eye on landscaping trends, owner Scott Humphreys has seen a rise in demand for swimming pools over recent years. Affectionately calling pools the crown jewel of any garden, he notes that nowadays pools are often a tick-box for high-end Kiwi properties.

Passionate about pools

With the surge in demand, Humphreys Landscaping quickly found their team managing the build of about 8 - 10 pools annually – alongside subcontractors – despite not running a pool construction business themselves.

So, when the opportunity arose to bring the entire pool design and build process in-house, he jumped at the chance. “From a design point of view, when there's someone else who's designed the pool, it can be complicated for both the client and for us. Having the whole design and build process in-house makes the experience completely seamless,” Humphreys says.

Bringing two pool businesses into the fold – Executive Pools and Pool Magic – has allowed Humphreys Landscaping to extend their signature quality service further.

“We're all about service, right across everything that we do. We’re client first and we're dedicated to making that experience – from design and construction, to the ongoing care of the pools and gardens – enjoyable and straightforward,” Humphreys explains.

The two business acquisitions have enabled Humphreys Landscaping to cover every stage of the pool journey, from concept to maintenance. With Executive Pools, Scott and the team work with clients to define the shape, size, location and finish of their pools, and then manage the entire build process.

As concrete pools are freeform, they can be designed to fit virtually any site and garden style. In fact, Humphreys adds that he hasn’t come across many sites where a pool can’t be installed. The team’s quality service doesn’t stop at the completion of a pool installation.

With ongoing maintenance offered through the Pool Magic valet, they’re able to ensure every pool remains in pristine condition.

A tailored offering

According to Humphreys, a completed garden and pool should look as if it’s always been there. For Design Manager Jeremy Cole, this means starting every project with a classic, timeless design approach. To ensure they offer the client a premium experience, Cole says, presentation is key.

“We spend a lot of time making sure that the presentation to the clients is perfect every time, and we use 3D models of the gardens to help people visualise what they're going to get.” Using this technology for complex architectural projects allows the team to assist architects early in the design process so that everyone is on the same page for the build.

Having worked for Suzanne Turley for many years, Cole brings a wealth of experience and strong leadership to his team of landscape architects, whose capacity to take on challenging, high-end architectural projects is a source of pride for the business.

With a portfolio featuring some of Auckland’s most iconic luxury homes, it’s easy to see why Humphreys Landscaping has earned the reputation of Auckland’s leading residential landscape design and installation company.
