GoodWe’s BIPV division has rolled out Vela, its innovative residential solar carport developed as a compelling alternative to traditional rooftop and ground-mounted solar systems across Australia and New Zealand.

Powered by the company’s Polaris building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) panels, the Vela carport is available in two output options—4.8 kW (single-vehicle) and 8.0 kW (double-vehicle)—and over 80 units have already been installed since its launch in late 2024.

Flexible Design with Real Advantages

Vela’s modular design offers exceptional flexibility and ease of installation:

  • The single-unit model measures 6.5 m × 3 m, while the double-unit spans 6.5 m × 5.2 m. Both variants feature adjustable pole heights: 3 m–3.5 m at the front and 2 m–2.5 m at the rear.
  • Built with an all-aluminium alloy frame, the carports are weatherproof, waterproof, and engineered for fast, simple installation—“like Lego” assembles in just four hours for a single unit or six for a double, with only three installers needed.

Ideal for Tenancies and Rural Applications

  • In small commercial or leased settings, where rooftop installations may be restricted due to property damage concerns, Vela provides a non-invasive solution—installed securely on concrete and fully relocatable at lease end.
  • In rural areas, Vela conserves valuable land: unlike fenced ground-mounted systems, Vela allows the land underneath to remain usable.

Economic and Regulatory Benefits

When connected to the grid, Vela systems may qualify as depreciable assets for businesses and enable access to Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs), enhancing their financial attractiveness.

Looking Ahead: Expanding the BIPV Portfolio

As Australia continues leading the world in solar adoption per capita, GoodWe anticipates BIPV will see rapid growth, mirroring trends observed in Europe and Japan. Over the next 12 months, the company plans to expand its residential BIPV lineup with new solutions like solar patios and solar pergolas, aimed at meeting increasing home energy demands.
