Even if you live where temperatures are extreme, you’ll probably want a combination of both heating in winter and cooling in summer. Choosing the right heat pump solution will turn your home into an oasis of comfort, all day, every day.

Our advanced heat pump technology and an array of smart features mean that you can enjoy much more than just heating and cooling. You have the ultimate in temperature control, quality air, cost-savings and have a sleek contemporary design whichever system you choose.

Heating and Cooling Systems – how do they work?
Most contemporary heat pump systems have reverse-cycle technology. This means they can heat and cool your home. In fact, every heat pump in the Daikin range offers both heating and cooling options. This includes our Split System, Multi-Split and Ducted heat pump systems, depending on whether you wish to control the temperature in just a few rooms or throughout your entire home.

Beautifully warm in winter
You’ll be surprised to know that even cold winter air contains usable heat that you can pump inside your home. Daikin reverse-cycle technology absorbs this heat from the outside air to create a cosy atmosphere within. It’s easy to regulate so you enjoy just the warmth you want and it’s also more energy efficient than conventional heaters, which need to generate heat, rather than harnessing heat energy from the outside air to create warmth inside.

Living in our very cold regions? Daikin heat pumps have you covered. Our automatic defrost cycle means even if it gets to minus 10ºC, you’ll still stay warm, as your Daikin effortlessly continues to heat your home to a pre-set temperature.

Perfectly chilled in summer
Likewise, as the mercury rises, a Daikin reverse cycle heat pump absorbs heat from the inside air and disperses it outside, leaving your home the perfect chill-out zone. If you’re in the sub-tropics, you’ll love the fact that advanced Daikin technology finds it a breeze to cool your home, even when it gets above 30ºC.

Remember, cool air is heavier than warm. So, when you’re looking for the ideal position for your heat pump, install it as close to the ceiling as possible. For cool air, point the louvres upward or horizontally and for warm air, direct the louvres down towards the people in the room.

Two hot tips to keep you cool
• Sounds obvious – but only cool the rooms you need. If you have a ducted air conditioning system, you can use your zone settings. Or if you have another system, close doors between cooled and uncooled rooms to stop warm air seeping in. If one of your rooms is naturally very warm (e.g. an attic), or cool (e.g. a cellar), you can switch to a fan-only setting to help save energy.

• When you set your thermostat, remember that every 1 degree colder can cost up to 10% extra in energy. So don’t just set and forget the temperature at an icy level – outside temperatures vary throughout the day and so should your heat pump.

What are the benefits of Inverter Technology?
Daikin Inverter Technology is one of the most energy-efficient ways to heat and cool your home. It gently adjusts power so you reach your desired temperature faster and then maintains it, without fluctuations. Much more effective than a non-inverter system, Daikin’s advanced inverter compressor continually adjusts the heating or cooling output, depending on the temperature in the room.

You’ll not only enjoy beautifully consistent temperatures, inverter technology makes Daikin heat pumps more energy efficient, with longer life span, as there’s less wear and tear.

Save money with MEPS
What’s MEPS we hear you ask? It simply means Minimum Energy Performance Standards and you can rest assured that our complete Daikin range not only complies with, they exceed the New Zealand MEPS requirements.

We also build in loads of great features into our Split System heat pumps to save you money, including Econo Mode and a Standby Power function. When it comes to Daikin Ducted systems, Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) control gently adjusts your room temperature throughout the day, giving you the ultimate balance of efficiency and comfort and making sure you only use the exact amount of power that you need.

Heating and cooling is just the start
If someone in your family suffers from asthma or is sensitive to dust, you won’t just want to warm and cool your home, you’ll want a heat pump that purifies the air. New Zealand has one of the highest proportion of asthma sufferers in the world, and even more who are affected by hay fever and other airborne allergies. This means it’s vital that your heat pump can also keep your air clean.

Daikin’s Split System heat pumps are approved by the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation NZ’s Sensitive Choice® program, and also carry the blue butterfly symbol. Their built in air-purifying filters trap fine airborne particles, like dust, smoke and pollen. And that’s not all. Our innovative US7 Split System heat pump provides highly energy efficient temperature control and can humidify, dehumidify, ventilate, and purify. It’s also the most energy efficient split system heat pump in New Zealand* with a 7-star ‘super efficiency’ rating using the all new R32 refrigerant.

Small details make a big impact
Daikin heat pumps offer you an extensive range of features to take your heating and cooling experience to the next level.

Maybe you’ve just come in from the cold and you need a blast of super warm air. Or perhaps you’re arriving home from a cold, rainy night out and you’d like to get cosy fast. Some Daikin Ducted heat pump systems include a Quick Cool / Heat mode, which temporarily increases air conditioning power to rapidly reach the temperature you’d like, before they automatically revert to the usual comfortable room setting.

And here’s a breath of fresh air. If you’re an outdoors kind of person, Daikin’s US7 split system features a Natural Breeze Airflow mode, which varies airflow and direction to simulate the sensation of a crisp, natural breeze.
