If you have a big family to feed, see yourself as an entertainer, or just love heritage style, a range cooker might just be your kitchen’s ultimate asset.

Range cookers combine heritage and tradition with the functions of a variety of up-to-the-minute appliances in a single unit. They may have a history dating back nearly 200 years, but you don’t need an old-world kitchen to have one fit in well at your house.

Balancing heritage and contemporary

Traditionally found in country homes, the range cooker was not only the centre of the kitchen, but provided heating for the whole home. The cooker has since evolved to meet the needs of today’s home cook and there is a variation on the classic design to suit your kitchen, regardless of its style.

“With a more traditional range cooker, you can have modern cabinets, for a contrasting feel, or go traditional and have a really country, farmhouse-style kitchen,” says Andi-Co marketing manager Robin Werth.

Andi-Co distributes Falcon range cookers, some of the most sought-after on the market.

“There’s a Falcon cooker for any kitchen – contemporary, industrial or traditional,” says Robin.

The availability of space is an important consideration, Robin advises. “A range cooker takes up space in the kitchen that cabinets could use, but on the flipside, you’re saving space that a built-in oven would use in the wall.”

Range cookers can be a standout kitchen feature or blend in because they are highly customisable.

“You can blend range cooker colourways into the cabinet colourways for a seamless finish, or you could have, say, light-coloured cabinetry with a dark-coloured range cooker, to make it more of a feature,” says Robin. Falcon cookers, for example, come in 16 colours, with chrome, brass or nickel fittings, and three fuel types.

Made for multi-tasking

If you’re a food aficionado, like to entertain, or have a large household, the multi-faceted capabilities of a range cooker can be invaluable. “Range cookers offer what we call multi-cavity cooking. With a Falcon you’ve got a separate grill cavity as well as a second oven or proofing drawer,” says Robin. Falcon’s Nexus range has the option of a dedicated steamer – a first in Australia – and proof that the range cooker has adapted to the needs of today’s home cook.

Investing in longevity

As a premium appliance, a range cooker is an investment that makes it easier to cook complex dishes, and meals to feed the masses. The average kitchen lasts 10 years, but a well-made range cooker will likely last much longer. If cooking and entertaining are close to your heart, a beautifully engineered range cooker that you’ll use for years to come is an investment worth considering.
