Residential real estate is said to be the next frontier to be radically transformed by the wellness movement, and we’re already seeing this change with a focus on how our homes can proactively support our fitness goals.
While design elements such as the use of art, considered colour palettes and biophilic design can contribute to feeling good, physical health goals require much more than that.
“Of course, after these past years, health and wellness has become a key priority for people on a global level,” says Nerio Alessandri, president and founder of Technogym.
He notes that this drive towards fitness was an emerging trend even before the pandemic: “People are ready to spend more time and invest more money on their health and quality of life, therefore fitness equipment is now a part of the home environment.”
However, this doesn’t necessarily mean there should be a rush to redesigning spaces to make way for full home gym set-ups.
Instead, Technogym New Zealand’s Alex Hunt and CEO Mark Newcombe recommend starting with just two pieces of equipment. For example, the Technogym Bench and Technogym Ride.
“The bench is a multi-use machine, making it popular for homes because not everyone has the luxury of having a whole room they can dedicate for the gym. If they’ve only got a small space, they can go in with the Technogym Bench, paired with a form of cardio – such as riding,” says Alex.
“What type of cardio do you enjoy most?” adds Mark. “If you have limited space, pair the bench with whatever piece of cardio is your favourite. As a result of that, you can do a really good workout in a small area.”
Many products from Technogym’s Personal line of workout equipment have been designed in this way: compact, yet multifunctional.
A step up from the Technogym Bench and Technogym Ride combination for a multi-use workout is the Unica; and for a premium home gym one-piece set up is the Kinesis Personal: a complete functional private gym with hundreds of exercises to challenge strength, flexibility, coordination and balance.
Each piece in the Technogym Personal range benefits from the design vision of Italian architect and designer, Antonio Citterio. Fusing functionality and design with exceptional style, the equipment isn’t intended to be hidden away in a private room – it can be on display ready to use, without taking away from the overall look and feel of a space.
The use of materials such as tempered glass, polished aluminium, steel and soft-touch plastic gives each piece a unique and contemporary appearance.
“Once people visit our showroom, they realise the difference with Technogym’s equipment,” says Mark. “It’s like a luxury car – it’s one thing to say the name of a luxury brand, but it’s another thing to actually sit in it, feel it and drive it. It’s very different from just looking at a piece of paper with the description.”
Plus, by having luxury gym equipment at home, it’s easier to commit to workout goals, says Alex.
“There’s no excuses.”
