Many households are guilty of having that rowing machine or pilates reformer that becomes a piece of storage, rather than it being used as intended. This is why it’s important to choose exercise equipment wisely – what will you use and is it fit for purpose?
Which workout equipment is right for you?
With its premium, Italian-made equipment dubbed as the “Ferrari of fitness” and found across the globe in five-star hotel gyms, cruise ships, and top-of-the-line fitness centres and physiotherapy clinics, Technogym knows a thing or two about quality gym gear.
“Many have seen our equipment in magazines or at hotels around the world and that’s when they usually go down the process of creating their own dedicated space at home,” says Technogym’s Alex Hunt.
When it comes to creating these spaces, he has one piece of advice: “Work out what you really need and don’t overdo it to start off with – get the essentials and then build from there.”
As with most projects, the first step is to ascertain what your budget is as there are different tiers of Technogym products available to choose from.
“You don’t need five or six pieces of equipment,” explains Alex. “Most of the time, you can get away with one – such as the personal Kinesis or Unica.
“We get a lot of people needing to upgrade their equipment where maybe previously they went a little bit on the cheaper side, and they realise that the quality of the equipment is not in keeping with the rest of their home.”
The most important part though, is testing out the exercise equipment. When customers visit Technogym’s Auckland showroom, they’re able to experience the equipment for themselves and learn from Technogym’s team of experts.
“Most of the time, either myself or one of the others in the team will offer a training session using the equipment once it is in someone’s house. We will take a session guiding them through how to use the equipment along with using the Technogym app.”
Once you’ve found the perfect piece of gym equipment suited to your budget and exercise goals, the in-house CAD (computer-aided design) team will work with you to create your dream space.
“How much technology do you need? Who is going to be using the space? You can give us as little or as much information as you want and we can use CAD to help you visualise the space.”
Through the Technogym app, hundreds of exercises tailored to the equipment that you’ve purchased are available.
“The app prescribes daily workouts that cater to your personal fitness goals,” says Alex.
Technogym’s exercise bikes also deliver on the technology front, with most models able to connect to a range of classes: “The majority of our bikes now have built in connectivity – even with the entry level kit, you can use an iPad to get the same functionality as commercial-grade equipment. Everyone has that option of being able to go into live classes.”
We aim to make it as easy as possible for people to do exercise.
If you choose to take advantage of the subscription option, you’ll be able to join live classes hosted around the world, including in Italy and London, explains Alex.
“You can virtually race other people on bikes using third party apps that we link in with the equipment. We have a hands-on service team and digital specialist who guide you through the experience and set-up – it’s all part of the package.
“We aim to make it as easy as possible for people to do exercise.”
