As the winter chill settles in, there's nothing more enticing than the promise of a cozy getaway to a picturesque destination. Thanks to Google search, I stumbled upon a true gem that captured my imagination: the Hotel InterContinental Sorrento in Victoria. Its stunning images and luxurious new fitout kept appearing in my feed, beckoning me to experience its allure firsthand. The design was simply fabulous, and I couldn't help but envision myself staying there, surrounded by elegance and beauty.
As a curator of exquisite outdoor fabrics, I am naturally drawn to stunning designs, captivating decor, impeccable fitouts, and breathtaking outdoor areas. The Hotel InterContinental Sorrento perfectly embodies all these elements. Following its restoration in 2022, this historical building exudes heritage glamour, with European influences seamlessly woven into the hotel's accommodations, seven restaurants, bars, spa, bathhouse, and swimming pool.

The bedrooms are adorned with scalloped bedheads in luxurious velvets, featuring classic European forest green tones. The balcony rooms have stylish striped cushions, and this thematic elegance extends throughout the entire hotel. From the bar venue to the banquet seating, outdoor cabanas, alfresco dining areas, and poolside, the indoor and outdoor cushions harmoniously connect guests with the spaces, creating an uplifting atmosphere.
The classic forest green colour with European stripe unifies the whole venue - we love it, we love that the cushions were used to create a seamless indoor outdoor feel, a way of connecting guests with spaces in an uplifting mood.
Curiosity led me to delve deeper into the design and interior background of this beauty. The architects behind the refurbishment are the renowned global architecture studio, Woods Bagot, who aptly titled the project "Modern Nostalgia."

Their approach involved reinventing this bayside hospitality icon beyond its former glory by infusing it with both provenance and promise. Drawing inspiration from George Coppin, the new precinct's design embraces a "modern nostalgia" approach, combining the comfort of nostalgia with the spirit of modern grandeur. The intention is to make European luxury accessible to local and regional visitors while infusing it with a uniquely antipodean sensibility.
