Modern kitchen cooktop ideas for stylish homes in New Zealand

Downdraft ventilation systems are one of the newest innovations that many are taking a liking to. It's a system that works by pulling cooking fumes, smoke and odours downwards towards a vent installed between or behind the burners. This typically negates the need for a traditional rangehood, allowing you to save significant space and achieve a sleek look — popular in contemporary-styled homes.

Ventilation hoods, in combination with a downdraft system, are a great choice, especially for a cooktop installed on a kitchen island with no surrounding splashback. The latest models use a transparent ventilation screen to minimise visual disruption in the kitchen space. These can also be completely lowered into the benchtop for total concealment when not in use, making it the perfect modern accessory.

One of the biggest decisions to make when choosing a cooktop for your home is which type to go for, be it gas, electric or induction. This can sometimes be tricky as each has its own merits but there is another option to consider — the combination cooktop. This sophisticated solution combines two types of cooktops in one, typically a gas with electric or induction. It allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds, giving you the flexibility to pick and choose either function whenever you like.

A sleek and uncluttered kitchen design is an on-trend and practical choice, appealing to those drawn to minimalist aesthetics. Integrated gas hobs, typically installed through the kitchen countertop, are the perfect solution with this in mind, removing the standard stainless steel base that you would ordinarily get with a cooktop. They are incredibly easy on the eye, projecting designer kitchen vibes while freeing up valuable counter space at the same time. A perfect option to install with marble countertops, allowing their natural beauty to shine.

Some amazing features have been developed with the latest cooktops on the market and the full cooking surface is a great example. It offers one big cooking surface for free positioning of your cookware allowing you to use all your pots and pans, big or small. It's a great asset especially for those who fancy themselves as a cook, facilitating uninhibited culinary expression in the kitchen.

For fans of Asian cuisine, a gas wok cooktop is an absolute must, allowing you to execute your favourite wok-inspired dishes with ease. Their large, circular design perfectly accommodates the rounded shape of a wok and the higher temperature outputs allow you to sear foods quickly for stir-frying. They also tend to feature very precise flame control helping you achieve the exact texture and flavour you're after.

Grilling meat is something that is typically reserved for the summer BBQ but imagine being able to quickly do the same from the comfort of your kitchen, anytime you want. An electric grill cooktop can help you achieve this with a spacious grilling surface, far larger than a standard grill pan, accommodating a full batch of your favourite cut meats. It's great for hosting and a kitchen appliance you'll get plenty of use out of.

Everyone loves the drama and excitement of a teppanyaki restaurant experience and now you can bring that into your home with a teppanyaki cooktop. For those who aren't familiar with teppanyaki, it is a Japanese style of cooking on a large griddle, typically used in front of patrons as a stage for a chef's technical flair and skills. It's great fun and a unique point of difference for any kitchen that adds value to any occasion in more ways than one.

When choosing a cooktop for your home, you'll also have to think about the type of finish to go for, which actually influences more than just its look. Stainless steel, for example, is a strong choice for its polished look and durability, resistance to stains, rust and heat. Brushed steel is very similar but offers a more matte look that hides fingerprints. Most induction cooktops come in ceramic glass which is tough, easy to clean and can incorporate touch controls. However, you can find other variations, including black glass, for a bold stylish choice.

As you can see, there are some exciting options to consider for your next cooktop upgrade from sophisticated downdraft ventilation systems to large grills and an array of stunning finishes. It's a great opportunity to do more with your cooking and enhance the appearance of your kitchen space, adding convenience and enjoyment to your daily routines.
