Building a new home or renovating should be an exciting time, but to build your dream home, you need to find a builder that’s the perfect fit.
You can’t underestimate how important it is to have a great relationship with your builder during a major renovation. After all, you’re trusting them with what is probably your biggest financial asset – your home.
So where do you start?
Do your homework
Bear in mind that you’ll probably be spending a lot of time with the builder you choose, so you’ll want to feel totally comfortable and confident that they can achieve your vision on time and on budget.
Here’s a checklist of the kinds of questions we’d suggest you ask during a site visit:
By asking questions like these (and more!) you will get a real feel for the builder and can make an informed decision about whether they are the kind of person or company you’d like to do business with.
A word of caution on cost…
While no doubt price will be a factor in your decision, you need to ensure your home is in safe and expert hands. Cheaper often doesn’t mean better.
There are lots of decisions to be made during a renovation, and sometimes this can get overwhelming. An experienced builder can provide you with expert advice and add real value to the build. They can suggest options of what might look or work better, and remember, doing it right costs less than doing it over!
