Interior stylist Steve Cordony always knew he’d end up working in a creative field but a love of interiors sparked a career that he has now built – with the help of social media – into his own thriving brand.

ArchiPro has partnered with Steve Cordony to produce Let’s Talk Interiors, a video series of interviews with Australia’s best designers – the award-winning Alexander &CO and Arent&Pyke among them.

Steve has an Instagram following of 386,000, providing an ideal platform to take people behind the scenes on the styling he does for brands, events and his own homes.

One such home is a Georgian-style homestead Steve and his partner bought and renovated on 120 acres near Orange, NSW. They turned it into a gorgeous base from which to live and work, along with two luxury self-contained guest rooms (once the servants' quarters). Steve also expanded the garden and planted more than 27,000 trees to transform Rosedale Farm into a haven.

Styling is the simplest way to make a space ‘feel’ a certain way

The farmstay showcases Steve’s signature contemporary European style that turns any project he turns his attention to into a standout.

It takes time to develop a signature style, of course, but Steve has been doing exactly that since he first began dreaming about creating spaces that evoke an emotional response.

“Styling is the simplest way to make a space ‘feel’ a certain way,” he says. “The space can be designed to within an inch of its life, but if there is no soul or representation of the people who live there then it becomes a showroom.

Steve’s father was a builder and his mother was an interior decorator.

“I grew up surrounded by renovating and interiors,” Steve says. Although he’d always loved the creative and performing arts, he was able to explore different genres during his studies at Design Centre Enmore. “Interior design was the field I felt brought together so many creative practises to create something tangible and allow me to create spaces to make people feel a certain way.”

Steve started out on his interior styling journey assisting on Belle magazine shoots in 2006. “From there I went on to become a contributor, then Interior Design Editor and Style Director-at-Large, which set me off to be able to create my own company and that’s where I am today.”

Social media has been a valuable tool for Steve, expanding his profile and enabling him to engage with his audience on a daily basis.

“Social media became ‘a thing’ halfway through my career and what started out as being a creative outlet has turned into a big part of my business and brand,” Steve says. “It allows me to showcase my style DNA and personality, and the work and shoots and projects I get to create and collaborate with brands on.”

No one day is the same within my world, which is exhausting and thrilling at the same time

There’s no such thing as a typical day for Steve, but that’s just how he likes it.

“My creative brain constantly likes change, so one day I could be filming or shooting, the next could be meetings and creative concept proposals, and the next could be spent on the road sourcing the latest and greatest products for the various projects I have on at that time,” Steve says. “No one day is the same within my world, which is exhausting and thrilling at the same time.”
