Winners of The Block, Alisa and Lysandra, have shared the next instalment of their popular online design series The Design Duo, which follows the renovation of their side-by-side Adelaide family homes – and Neolith plays a starring role.

Drawn to the stunning good looks and hardwearing nature of Neolith architectural surfaces, the design supremos chose eye-catching Neolith for key areas in their neighbouring homes in Somerton Park. “As interior designers, we are drawn to materials that are visually appealing, but also durable and versatile,” says Lysandra. “Both of our homes have been designed specifically for our families and lifestyles, but we still wanted our spaces to be interesting and fit our aesthetic. We have featured Neolith surfaces in both the interiors and exteriors due to their easy maintenance, versatility in application, and durability to withstand daily wear and tear.”

While their homes sit side by side, Lysandra and Alisa’s visions couldn’t be more different.Lysandra looked to evoke a moody, urban-luxe style with richer tones and finishes, while Alisa favours a fresh, bright and contemporary aesthetic. Neolith’s vast range of stunning colours, thicknesses and slab sizes made it easy for them to express their personal styles.

For her master suite, Lysandra designed a one-of-a-kind bedhead in Neolith Calacatta Luxe, which features dramatic gold and brown veining set against a bright white background. As Neolith comes in huge slabs of up to 3600 x 1200mm, she was able to create maximum impact with a seamless, join-free finish that runs virtually the full width of the room. “The feel throughout my home is dark and moody, and the Neolith Calacatta Luxe featured in my bedroom perfectly plays the part. The marble has distinctive veining and a luxurious appearance that is elegant and timeless,” she says.

The twins then used Neolith in different colours in their alfresco areas, creating unique looks that elevate these hardworking spots in their family homes.

Easy to clean and care for, and with the ability to resist heat, UV fading and scratching, Neolith was the perfect finish to install behind the barbeques in their outdoor areas. In keeping with the dramatic tone she set indoors, Lysandra chose Neolith Himalaya Crystal, which evokes the look of quartz, enlivened with warm, brown veining, for a feature wall in her outdoor kitchen. She complemented it with weathered charcoal cabinetry and crisp, white benchtops, resulting in an outdoor entertaining space that’s both chic and inviting.

Meanwhile, Alisa used a palette of white and tonal shades of pale grey to add a serene and contemporary feel to her alfresco area – the perfect spot to relax in the warmer months. She added depth and dimension by running Neolith Shilin – a light, concrete-effect stone with a fine, granular texture – in a variety of different ways throughout her outdoor kitchen; across the walls, the cabinetry and the benchtops. Pale grey crazy paving and accents of terrazzo add a playful touch and set the scene for summer fun.

Two decorative visions, effortlessly expressed with spectacular stone finishes from Neolith.
