As Australia’s green building market continues to grow there is an increasing appetite for sustainable building and construction products.

In their latest webinar, Responsible Wood, the Australian National Governing Body for PEFC, showed how the wood industry can make the most out of the opportunities now available. The webinar covered the advantages of existing tools such as Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and new trademarks for Responsible Wood.

PRESENTERS

Nicole Sullivan – Head of Strategy & Impact Australia, thinkstep-anz

Before joining thinkstep-anz Nicole was Senior Manager of Green Star Solutions at the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) where she led the development of the Responsible Products Framework for the new Green Star Buildings rating tool and managed the GBCA’s relationship with Australian Government’s Climate Active as a carbon neutral building certifier. Prior to this Nicole was Technical Manager of Sustainability for BlueScope. She has a Chemical Engineering (Hons I) degree from the University of New South Wales.

Simon Dorries – Chief Executive Officer, Responsible Wood

Simon has extensive experience in product certification, technical promotion, education and training, standards and codes development, brand promotion and recognition, and research and development. Prior to joining Responsible Wood Simon spent nine years as Chief Executive of the Engineered Wood Products Association of Australasia.

Steve Mitchell – Chair, EPD Australasia & Principal Consultant, thinkstep-anz

Steve is a qualified sustainability professional – co-authoring the first Australian timber industry Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) registered with EPD Australasia. He is the current Chair of EPD Australasia, a long-time member of the Australian Life Cycle Assessment Society and was a member of the Materials & Supply Chain Expert Reference Panel for the Green Building Council of Australia GBCA. Steve is also an FSC®, PEFC/RW COC Lead Auditor with SCS Global Services via their regional affiliate Green Marketing Solutions.

The webinar is relevant for those in the timber industry, along with the wider building and construction industries. It provides a chance to better understand how tools such as the EPD and new trademarks fit into the bigger picture to create a sustainable built environment.
