With the changing regulations, it’s important to start considering alternatives to engineered stone. This new collection features innovative, safe formulas without compromising on style.

From July 1, Australia is set to become the first country to prohibit the use, supply and manufacture of all engineered stone. During the manufacture of engineered stone, as well as the removal, repair and modification of benchtops using the material, health can be impacted by its high crystalline silica content (up to 90 per cent).

“While the industry faces regulatory hurdles, YDL Stone continues to redefine industry norms by embracing innovation and adapting to changing regulations,” says YDL Stone’s Farah Afridi.

“With a focus on safety and quality, YDL Stone proudly introduces its groundbreaking silica-free surface, boasting less than 1 per cent crystalline silica content. The new Silica-free range is scheduled to be released in the upcoming months, aligning with our commitment to delivering innovative solutions in a timely manner.”

“More and more, people are wanting to achieve a marbled look in their homes and I think this is as a result of people coming into the showroom and loving the options we have.”

New formulas tested to be safer, while providing the same colours and finishes

The formulas for this new range of silica-free stone have been produced in samples and submitted to a NATA-accredited laboratory, officially recognised by the government, for testing – the results proving that all formulas contain less than 1 per cent crystalline silica.

“Except for the formulas, it is all the same, nothing changes. There is more recycled glass content in the Silica-free range. This new stone collection will still be durable, easy to use, polished and stain resistant, We have conducted over 30 different types of physical tests through SCS Global Lab and the results closely resemble those of the original quartz stone,” says Afridi.

Most of the same colours will also be available, allowing a smooth transition and the ability to continue using YDL Stone’s trending designs.

“More and more, people are wanting to achieve a marbled look in their homes and I think this is as a result of people coming into the showroom and loving the options we have.”

Many have also been gravitating towards the elegant range of porcelain for kitchen benchtops, bathroom vanities and other surfaces across the home, as well as commercial projects.

“There are more options now. Designers and clients didn’t used to look at porcelain as much and they never looked at natural stones as much because engineered stone was everywhere. Now people are looking into other options. It gives them a real variety – I feel like it’s made selecting benchtops more fun,” says Afridi.

“After the successful introduction of our porcelain range, YDL Stone is planning to explore further product line expansions in the future. This forward-thinking initiative reinforces our dedication to remaining at the forefront of market trends while consistently delivering exceptional craftsmanship.”

For homeowners, architects and design professionals searching for the right stone for their next project, YDL Stone has recently relocated to a bigger facility in Melbourne – fuelled by the brand’s dedication to growing and evolving alongside its customers’ needs.

“With this move, we are set to open the doors to a world of boundless possibilities,” says Afridi. “The extended space will allow the curation of an even larger selection of new and exciting ranges such as the Silica-free range, ensuring that you have access to the latest trends and designs.”
