It's pretty much a given these days that a house will have a well-planned, functional kitchen. And because kitchens are more often than not part of the open-plan living spaces, homeowners expect them to look good, too.
The same principle can be applied to the laundry in most modern homes. For families today, efficiency in areas like this can make all the difference to the smooth running of your day, and to achieve that efficiency, you need a good design.
Newtech, a New Zealand-owned and operated business, has been designing and making innovative bathroomware for the local market for more than 20 years. More recently, it has pooled the knowledge it has accumulated over that time to create bespoke laundry packages.
Sales & Marketing Director Marcus Wycherley says these modular laundry packages have been designed to take the hard work out of installing a new laundry in your home and, at the same time, offer great functionality, storage space and a smart appearance.
“We have recently collated eight new designs, with choices of benchtop, cabinetry, colours, tapware, handles and other features—and packaged them up. These latest designs join Newtech’s existing suite of laundry packages.
“Our first packages have been well received, but we realised there was also a need for smaller pre-assembled laundries, so these new designs meet that requirement,” says Marcus.
“With our packages, there’s no need to incur design or consultation costs; you can go online or look at our catalogue and follow the instructions. From here, you simply pick what you want from the various options and within approximately 30 working days your laundry will be delivered to your home, ready for installation by a reasonably capable DIY homeowner, any experienced tradesman or one of our recommended installers.”
Once you decide to order, the team at Newtech provides full drawings to be signed off. All cabinetry is delivered assembled and ready to install. All other required componentry is delivered at the same time, including quality Hettich drawer runners and hinges, which are supplied with a lifetime warranty.
The new designs are available in a selection of smaller sizes from 900mm to 2000mm wide and feature different cabinetry styles, including under-bench drawers or cupboards. You can select from seven woodgrain Melamine finishes for the cabinetry, ranging from Roasted Walnut to Matte White. This is teamed with a quartz slab benchtop, available in your choice of Midnight Stone or Himalaya.
Drawer and door handles are available in four different colour finishes. Another option is to have sleek negative finger pull detailing along the top of the door or drawer edges, which is available in five colour finishes. Finishing touches include two choices of tapware as well as drying racks and floating shelves in a variety of lengths.
Various designs have different features for your needs such as the Castlepoint, which features a sink cabinet with doors, as opposed to the Fiordland which has a sink cabinet with two drawers. The Piha, Cathedral Cove, Coronet Peak and Devonport versions are all designed to allow for top-loaders if required.
And, where the house has a particularly compact laundry space, or you have a combination washer/dryer, Newtech has designed the Matakana and Doubtful Sound options. Alternatively, most of the designs will accommodate a wall-mounted dryer if that is preferred.
There are another eight styles to choose from in the larger laundry packages, of which the largest is the 3000mm-wide Taihape. These options include features such as tall cabinets, overhead cabinets and open shelves, as well as under-bench cabinets. Like the more compact styles, you can mix and match benchtop and cabinetry colours, handles and tapware to achieve the look you want for your home.
This modular concept is particularly well-suited to apartment developers and group home builders, as it provides them with an easy opportunity to offer potential buyers the opportunity to make their own decisions about their preferred laundry styles and designs in a selection of on-trend colours and finishes.
“Our laundry packages have been popular with large-scale projects such as retirement villages, apartments and new build developments, as well as with new homes, and they are also straightforward to retrofit into existing homes. We even provide details such as end panels and filler panels if the dimensions aren’t quite right,” says Marcus.
The team at Newtech is on hand to help builders, developers and homeowners through the planning and design process. Once the space is measured, they can talk you through your laundry plan discuss your options, colour finishes and extras. And, if the modular components don’t work in your existing space, the company can custom design a laundry to suit.
For those that would like to experiment with configuring their own design, Newtech's newly launched Design@Home laundry planner provides the perfect opportunity to configure your room shape and easily 3D model the different laundry components in your space.
