The rise of app-based solutions has revolutionised the way we manage our daily lives. From the simple morning alarm to secure online banking, apps are used to add convenience and efficiency to routines. With the growing popularity of smart home devices, the integration of apps into home security systems has become a natural progression for many individuals.

“People are already very familiar with using apps to add convenience to their daily living, from banking, reminders, messaging and so on,” shares ASSA ABLOY. “To go a step further to control lights, appliances, temperature controls, home security and smart door locks is just a continuation of that convenience factor.”

The compelling list of benefits includes convenience, enhanced security, remote access, integration with smart home systems, keyless entry, and easy installation. “Compared to fixed control panels or handheld remotes, good apps can be more intuitive and provide a better user experience, plus they are maintained, so updates and new features continue to be added,” ASSA ABLOY adds.

The Yale Home App ecosystem is at the forefront of this growing industry, offering users a seamless and user-friendly way to manage their home security. The app allows homeowners to control Yale smart locks, grant access to others, and monitor visitor activity, all from their mobile devices. The convenience of remotely accessing and managing locks, coupled with the ability to create temporary PIN codes for guests, tradies, or cleaners has made the Yale Home App a popular choice for ease of access and peace of mind.

The Yale Home App allows homeowners to control Yale smart locks, grant access to others, and monitor visitor activity, all from their mobile devices.

“You can access your door from wherever you are, lock or unlock, change PIN codes, monitor activity 24/7 to see when your lock was accessed and by whom, and check if it’s closed,” adds ASSA ABLOY.

“The door position sensor tells you if your door is securely closed and locked. This avoids inadvertently locking your door whilst the door is open and eases any anxiety of if you closed the door properly behind you. Using Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS, the auto-unlock function can unlock your door as you approach.”

“You can also create and change PIN codes or lock settings wherever you are. PIN codes can be adjusted for temporary access, such as only being active for two hours each week for a cleaner, or utilised in a holiday home.”

Over the years, ASSA ABLOY has adapted its approach to engineer a refined, simple solution. “Within our original approach, we’d bring out a digital lock and develop an app for it. Fast forward a few years and you’ve got different locks with different apps, all with different features, and all needing to maintain software updates,” shares ASSA ABLOY. “The Yale Home App is a game-changer as it’s an ecosystem, one that all Yale Smart products can be added to.”

The Yale Home App Kit provides a Yale Wi-Fi Connect Bridge which enables voice assistant, integrating into your smart home automation systems Google Assistant, Apple Home Kit, or Amazon Alexa. By integrating the bridge into your home automation system, homeowners can create lighting scenes, for instance, turning on lights when the door unlocks.

"We’ve had customers that are avid travellers, as part of their job, and the ability to still manage access to their home makes things so much easier. Whether it’s the friend that forgot something at their house and wants to grab it or it’s the builder doing a minor renovation while they are abroad. They can either let them in remotely or provide PIN code access for a particular day and time period. AirBnB owners also take advantage of the app features.

“We’ve also had parents with school-age kids who love the peace of mind of knowing their kids have safely arrived home when the app notification pops up saying ‘Lily has opened the front door'.”

Yale has been a trusted name for over 180 years with an unhindered commitment to security, data protection, and encryption. The brand takes ownership of the entire security encryption process, with four to six monthly security updates and prescriptive hardware and software testing.

“Yale has been New Zealand’s most recognised and preferred hardware brand amongst consumers since we started tracking it eight years ago,” adds ASSA ABLOY. “So, the transition for consumers to support our digital lock offering isn’t a giant leap.”
