Indeed, many stone suppliers exist in the architecture and design industries. While having plenty of choices is always great, navigating an overcrowded market can take time and effort.
The key is paying close attention to the products and services of each business – how is the product created? Where is it sourced? Do they only supply the stone product or help install it as well? These questions will help you gauge how supportive businesses are of their customers.
Prolific Stone International is one of Australia's leading providers of natural stone products. With over 40 years of industry experience, they work with an array of clientele including architects, landscapers, designers, builders, installers and more. Co-founders Jason Jordan and Simon Heyblok operate the business around three core values: integrity, quality, and customer satisfaction.
We have all heard the famous adage: "When a customer comes first, the customer will last". However, Simon has observed that some stone providers care more about getting the job done rather than getting the job done right. The issue with this mindset is that customers are left with stone products that could be better in quality.
"There's a bit of a gap in the industry with care and quality – certain stores are just happy to sell products, not worrying about their quality," he says.
"[Quality] is something that we really pride ourselves on. We care about our customers, we care about the products we sell them, and we live up to their expectations as well as our own."
While other providers sell stone products, Prolific Stone International offers complete end-to-end support for its customers. The team manages the entire process, from design consultation, sourcing, supplying, and shipping management to installation.
By providing premium stone products and helping customers on every step of their buying journey, Jason says it is so "customers have the best possible outcome. We help innovate a job if required, whether it be commercial or their own home".
One thing Prolific Stone International does not do is rest on its laurels. The team is constantly scouring the world for superior stone products. Jason explains that before stocking a product, it is essential to see, touch and feel it themselves, while also getting expert opinions.
"Once we get a sample of a product we like, we let our team, stonemasons and other resellers have the product in their hands to see what they think. If everyone approves it, then we add it to our product range," Jason says.
Providing unique stone products is a particularly effective solution for the business, as customers often ask them to match similar stones on the market.
As for the products themselves, Jason and Simon point out three premium products that customers regularly come back for:
Premium Bluestone
Prolific Stone International has its own branded premium bluestone. Quarried from basalt rock, it is a popular choice for outdoor flooring due to its durability and aesthetic appeal. Bluestone Cobbles and Bluestone Natural Edge Steppers are also available and can be used for pool surrounds, driveways, and walkways. Bluestone pavers are weather-resistant, making them perfect for unpredictable weather.
Natural Stone Wall Cladding
Natural stone wall cladding products can be installed in outdoor and indoor spaces, making them ideal for sprucing up your home. Use it for accent walls, fireplaces, and any other area that needs sophistication and elegance.
Di Luzzo Terrazzo
Combining terrazzo beauty and modern technology, Di Luzzo Terrazzo is a durable surface resistant to scratches, stains, and water damage. The stone is created by mixing marble or glass terrazzo chips with cement. It is suited for commercial and residential spaces, including kitchens, bathrooms, entryways, and lobbies.
To stock the premium products they have, Jason emphasises that quality control is a top priority.
"We ensure each layer is the same as the next and all the sizes are correct. We make sure that the correct amount of product is accurate and more. We've worked hard to ensure that what our customers pay for is what they get."
Simon says, "Good things aren't cheap and cheap things aren't good". As such, customers should be ready to invest if they are after premium products that last a lifetime. If you are not in the industry, he advises that educating yourself and asking questions always goes a long way.
"If you're looking around and something is really cheap, ask why. There is a reason – either the products are smaller or not as dense or stable. Some materials have different grades too, which can be misleading if you aren't aware."
