When the sun comes out, enjoying the outdoor living area is a homeowner’s highest priority, but if you have a timber deck, you’ll have to do some maintenance before you fire up the barbecue or relax in your lounger. For those who would prefer to get straight into enjoying their outdoor space when summer hits, composite decking offers a modern, low-maintenance alternative to traditional timber decking. Unlike timber, which requires regular upkeep—cleaning, oiling, and staining—composite decking can be cleaned with a simple pressure wash, shares Hurford’s Tyler Scott.
“Ultimately, composite decking provides a cost-effective solution that saves time and allows clients to focus on the more important things in life.”
Here, we explore the features of Trex Transcend Lineage and discover the latest innovations in composite decking.
Trex is the world's largest manufacturer of composite decking and was the pioneer in creating composite deck boards nearly 30 years ago. In Australia, Trex offers two ranges of composite decking: Transcend and Transcend Lineage.
The Transcend range, introduced in 2009, is known for its durability, low maintenance, and vibrant colour options that resist fading, staining, and scratching. It's a popular choice for homeowners seeking a long-lasting, beautiful deck.
The Transcend Lineage range, newly introduced to the Australian market in 2023, offers a refined look with subtle hues and cooling technology, designed to reflect the sun and keep the boards cooler.
Taking aesthetics to the next level, Trex also developed the Trex Transcend Signature range for discerning homeowners. It features a realistic timber grain that mimics the elegance of exotic hardwoods and is Trex's most scratch-resistant board yet.
The Trex Trancend range supplied by Hurfords already boasted deep woodgrain embossing, slip resistance, fade-resistance, six colour options, and a 50-year limited residential fade and stain warranty, but the latest range, Trex Trancend Lineage pushes the limits even further.
The Trex Transcend Lineage range not only boasts the same qualities, but features a new contemporary linear grain pattern in an additional four subtle modern hues, a P5 slip rating, a protective outer shell that resists fading, stains and scratches, and cooler-under-the-sun* technology. This technology is especially beneficial for homeowners who want to enjoy their outdoor spaces without the discomfort of overheated deck surfaces, shares Tyler.
“While any surface will warm up under the intense Australian sun, the heat-mitigating technology in the Lineage range helps reduce heat retention, making the deck more comfortable to walk on, even in warmer climates.”
For homeowners concerned about environmental sustainability, Trex boards are an excellent option because they’re made from an innovative blend of up to 95% recycled plastic film and reclaimed sawdust. Each year, Trex reclaims over 360 million kilograms of plastic from landfills.
“To put that into perspective, an average 6x6 metre deck contains more than 680kg of recycled and reclaimed timber and plastic film,” says Tyler. “This eco-friendly composition, combined with innovative green manufacturing processes, underscores Trex’s commitment to sustainability and minimising environmental impact.”
Because Trex Transcend Lineage boards have a tough, durable shell, they are highly resistant to scratches, stains, and fading. Unlike traditional timber, which can splinter, crack, or warp over time, Trex requires no sanding, staining, or sealing and resists damage from moisture and insects. This durability ensures Trex decking stays looking new for longer with minimal maintenance, shares Tyler.
“Unlike some companies that claim ‘no maintenance’ Trex decking is low maintenance. To keep it looking its best, only basic cleaning is needed—just use warm soapy water with a soft broom or a pressure washer (up to 3100 PSI).”

*Disclaimer: Although Trex decking products with heat-mitigating technology are designed to be cooler than most other composite decking products of a similar colour, on a hot sunny day, it will get hot. On hot days, care should be taken to avoid extended contact between exposed skin and the deck surface, especially with young children and those with special needs.
