In most cases, garage doors are fairly standardised with a set of solutions that are suitable for most applications. For high-end specifications though, standardised formats aren’t generally favoured. It’s in this top end niche where Prestige Garage Doors works – mostly with bespoke solutions.

“From a practical point of view, we’re seeing people favouring bespoke solutions as they provide a higher quality and longer-lasting solution than what the mass market can provide,” Prestige Garage Doors and Gates’ Ben Broide says. “Aesthetically, bespoke options are being chosen because they allow the client to get exactly what they want and something that will suit the look of their property. Often, garage doors are a domineering feature at the entrance of a home and one which can take the overall appearance of a property to an entirely new level with the right bespoke solution.”

In order to keep pushing the boundaries, Ben and the team are constantly focused on being at the forefront of innovation in the industry.

“Keeping up with new trends is so essential, not just for our brand but also from a customer service perspective,” Ben says. “We always want to know what is going on in our industry and be at the forefront of innovation. It keeps us passionate about what we do and what we have to offer people. We want to be able to offer the latest styles or better yet, something they have never seen before.”

Because the garage door industry does move slowly, it is being abreast of, and driving, innovation that is Prestige Garage Doors and Gates’ focus. “We are currently working on three new products.” Prestige Garage Doors recently released an aluminium sheet and batten door, and they’ve collaborated with Nuwall to use their cladding on garage doors and gates allowing for a wide range of new options.

“Before we released a new laser cut option and now our collaboration with Nuwall, the only real options for aluminium was a flat panel door,” Ben says. “Nuwall extends the possibilities in a really exciting way as we can now create traditional cedar-style garage doors such as shiplap, ribline and louvres in aluminium using Nuwall cladding”.

“The benefit of using Nuwall cladding over cedar is the product lifespan increases exponentially and the maintenance required is greatly decreased.”

Ply and batten doors remain one of the most popular requests in cedar garage doors, which Ben says is primarily because of the amount of customisation that can be achieved. “What we were seeing is people painting these doors in finishes that were hiding the fact they were cedar, which got us thinking and led us to develop the aluminium sheet and batten door. It’s a more modern take on the ply and batten door and with a powder coated finish it doesn’t require painting or the maintenance of its traditional cedar counterpart.”

While Prestige Garage Doors strive to consistently drive innovation in the garage door sector developing and releasing new products frequently, they also work closely with architects and designers to create completely customised solutions with the latest innovations.

“A great example of one of the bespoke solutions that has gained us a lot of recognition is the laser cut range, which provides the ultimate in customisation possibilities as clients or designers can literally design their own pattern for a garage door or gate,” Ben says.

Prestige Garage Doors offers a comprehensive service from start to finish for customised solutions, which can often include being involved in the early planning stages and design by providing architects with drawings and spec sheets. “We can advise on design and the best solution for each project, and then provide support to the builders who implement our designs.”

Prestige Garage Doors manufactures all its doors in New Zealand and their trained installers then install the finished product on site.
