In line with Dimond Roofing’s sustainability initiatives, the business has partnered with KCT (Kea Conservation Trust) to support the removal of poisonous lead roofing in the kea’s wild habitat.

“Sustainability is a loaded word at the moment, and it’s one we don’t take lightly at Dimond,” says Jasmin Pakura, Marketing Content Coordinator at Fletcher Steel — parent company of Dimond Roofing. “To us, sustainability means more than reducing our carbon emissions — it means looking after our people by fostering a positive work culture and supporting our community initiatives.”

Over the past few years, the industry has become increasingly aware of its impact on the environment. And, while many key players have implemented sustainable practices around material re-use and carbon reduction, Dimond Roofing is asking themselves what it truly means to be a sustainable business in an industry that accounts for 39% of global carbon emissions.

“We’ve already implemented green building principles across the industry and are proud to have met the criteria for a ‘Level A’ certification for the Global GreenTag GreenRate ecolabel as part of our Toitū carbon reduce accreditation.

“However, with sustainability being a key initiative, we’re striving to do more than just focusing on the environmental pillar – we are also working on our social and human sustainability pillars.”

Dimond’s recent partnership with KCT was brought to their attention by a customer who was actively involved with the Trust.

“We were ecstatic that Dimond was the supplier that came to our customer's mind as a company who could support such an amazing not-for-profit organisation, it was when we learnt more about the KCT that we decided to go all in,” Pakura explains.

“Along with supporting the KCT with the material costs in replacing poisonous lead roofing materials with non-lethal materials, we decided to spread the word about the amazing work the Kea Conservation Trust is doing through our people.”

To bring further awareness to the cause, Dimond Roofing partnered with social media influencers and Kiwi couple, Damien Nikora and Chanelle Taylor (known online as The Current Place) for the restoration of their woolshed.

To encourage engagement internally, all Dimond employees received a KCT t-shirt and soft toy with a QR code providing more information about the trust.

"Not only did this help to foster an inclusive environment, but it also gives our employees the chance to see how their hard work helps with the bigger picture, reinforcing that what they do matters and is appreciated.”

Pakura says employee buy-in is an important part of the success of sustainability initiatives, and the t-shirts resulted in curious customers who noticed employees wearing their kea shirts proudly at work, highlighting the work the KCT does.

To bring further awareness to the cause, Dimond Roofing partnered with social media influencers and Kiwi couple, Damien Nikora and Chanelle Taylor (known online as The Current Place) for the restoration of their woolshed.

“We put a lot of consideration into who we wanted to work with – Dimond Roofing share the same values as us when it comes to sustainability,” says Nikora.

Taylor agrees: “What I loved the most was that Dimond Roofing supports The Kea Conservation Trust; when we were down in the South Island, I fell in love with the kea, which is now an endangered species with only 7,000 left in the wild.”

The Current Place has created a series of videos across YouTube, Tiktok and Instagram showing the progress of their Woolshed’s re-roofing journey.

It’s been a match made in heaven, as the couple’s woolshed will take shape using Dimond Roofing products.

“Partnering with the Current Place seemed like a no-brainer – they are advocates for the new wave of homeowners who hold sustainability at the heart of what they do. Starting 2023 off with the partnership we have with The Current Place has been a highlight for Dimond,” says Pakura.

But it’s not the only exciting thing on the cards for Dimond Roofing. Fletcher Steel is celebrating 100 years this year, and as a Fletcher Steel brand, it’s a great time for Dimond Roofing to reflect on how much it has grown as a business and aa a leading sustainability focused brand since joining the Fletcher Steel family.

“The growth we see today reinforces that we’re not just another steel company that supplies roofing. We are a company that cares about our people, supports our communities and is doing the best we can for a better tomorrow, all while supplying some pretty epic roofing and cladding material."
