The Waipa project by Matt South and Noel Jessop Architecture stands as a testament to the seamless fusion of rural charm and modern elegance. Designed for a young family yearning for a sanctuary that aligns with their dynamic lifestyle and picturesque surroundings, this home embodies the perfect balance of seclusion, tranquillity, and the pinnacle of contemporary comforts.

Matt South meticulously curated the home’s aesthetic by drawing inspiration from the local vernacular, translating the family’s love for camping and bushwalking into a refined and cohesive design palette. This approach ensured that the house not only resonated with its natural surroundings but also provided a sleek, contemporary ambiance that caters to modern living.

A standout feature in this project is the incorporation of Neolith’s 12mm Mont Blanc, which graces the kitchen bench and splashback. This addition introduces a silken, textural element that enriches the space with a touch of elegance, seamlessly bridging the gap between chic design and the natural landscape.

Layering textures was important to capture that relaxed, easy living feel. Another focal aspect of the client’s brief was to curate a sense of flow throughout which strengthens the home’s connection to the family and wider landscape. Balance is everything: the angular architecture is softened with gentle curves throughout the home which harnesses this flow, along with that cohesive palette of materials and tones. - Matt South
