At the end of September, New Zealand’s first Costco store finally opened in Auckland.

CMT Group sub brand - Total Tactilez was lucky enough to be part of the furnishing, providing robust, yet aesthetic, tactile ground surface indicators throughout the 14,800 m2 store. The mammoth size is equivalent to around one and a half rugby fields.

If you didn’t know already, Costco is an American based company with a chain of warehouses all over the world. Selling a variety of goods ranging anywhere from food to pharmacy, to furniture, the big-box retailer has grown to be the third largest retailer in the world.

The project was designed by Architects Woodhams Meikle Zhan, and Group GSA. It was confirmed back in 2019 but faced delays due to COVID-19. The site features a no frill interior that prioritises convenience and safety making our non-slip materials a must.

Our Total Tactilez team were responsible for the supply and install of stainless steel tactiles found inside, near the escalators, to prevent slips and aid visually impaired walkers of an impending hazard. The sleek design of the tactiles seems right at home in the new build. They add a professional and subtle visual touch while also providing for the safety of the store’s patrons.

Next time you’re in Auckland, think about signing up for their membership and admire the build on your way in.
