A love of organics first drew stylist Steve Cordony to The Natural Bedding Company - and it’s been a match made in heaven ever since. So to collaborate with this talented interior designer on his lush restoration of the1877 country property, Rosedale Farm, was the pinnacle of ethical design - without a shred of compromise on style!
Steve has referred to TNBC as “the perfect organic sleep”, which is why he chose to fill his European-inspired farmhouse in Orange, NSW with our organic latex mattresses. After searching for years for the ultimate country home, Steve found it in Rosedale Farm.
Forty-nine pristine hectares that feature a wraparound verandah, Georgian-inspired design, and a guesthouse (formerly the staff’s quarters) that’s been restored to offer two pristine farm stays to the property. To top it all off, the location is smack-bang in the heart of regional wine & food heaven.
“Rosedale is a luxurious country getaway, while laying lightly on the environment to protect the land which surrounds it.”
Dubbed the country's most "instagrammable" farm by Harper's Bazaar, Steve wanted only the best of everything in Rosedale Farm. And when it came to the bedrooms in the luxury guest rooms, he came to us for the best in sustainable mattresses.
The Natural Bedding Company’s mattresses and overlays are individually handcrafted and made to order using the highest quality natural & organic materials. With in-house production at our Sydney warehouse, we balance the pillars of dreamy comfort with environmental consideration. And we firmly believe that with enough research, passion and commitment, you can absolutely achieve both.
The Dreamer mattress, which was featured in our first project together, is styled here by Steve himself in the Botanical Room. Soaked in soft lighting and soothing tones, with a nod to traditional country patterns and the natural landscape of Rosedale Farm, Steve mirrored our ethos of balancing sleek contemporary styling and a safe, low-tox sleeping environment.
“I want this room to be calming and bring the outdoors in. The perfect room for a natural organic mattress!” says Steve. “Lighting is so important as it sets the mood for the space, and your bedroom should be a sanctuary.”
“I choose the Dreamer for the farm, which is made of multiple layers of carbon neutralised organic latex, designed to offer plenty of support, minimise partner disturbance and increase comfort… And man, is it comfortable!”
“The 10cm organic latex core is surrounded by a layer of organic latex, and then the whole thing is wrapped in a layer of plush organic latex and a layer of Australian Downs wool. The cover is certified organic cotton and hemp, hand stitched to keep all the layers in place.”
When it comes to styling the bed, Steve feels it’s as important as the mattress itself.
“I love using 100% linen sheets all year round,” he said. “I love to layer with a quilt, and a chic blanket or throw at the end of the bed. They are the most interchangeable element in your interior and I like to change mine seasonally. For me, you can’t beat crisp white linen, then add colour where needed.”
Sustainability is at the forefront of overhaul... The mattresses are all individually handcrafted and Australian made.”
Steve wasn’t prepared to forgo his values when selecting a mattress, saying, “Sustainability is at the forefront of overhaul... The mattresses are all individually handcrafted and Australian made.”
Additionally, Rosedale Farm features a one acre vegetable garden taking centre stage at the back of the property, while using tank water for the home and garden, a solar panel system being installed imminently, and 27,000 trees planted across the property.
Head across the grass from the main house, where the Farm Stay bedrooms also showcase our iconic Dreamer mattresses as true statement pieces. Steve, having already tried and tested the style himself, saw it only fitting to offer this dreamy natural comfort to guests as well. Because nothing says opulence like a really good bed made of wholly natural materials, sitting pretty in the heart of the room.
The original homestead, built in 1877 by William Dale, was the culmination of everything Steve was looking for - and with the two unique farm stays now available to book, it’s a destination you have to see to believe. Every detail has been curated by Steve’s artful eye, lovingly restored with a European-influence that pays homage to the heritage of the property, without losing any of the luxurious features you’d expect in an interior designer’s home.
The old kitchen was gutted and redesigned, with Steve going through more than 100 colours before landing on his statement Black Cockatoo, with French oak chevron flooring right through the house, and each bedroom designed to maximise the abundant natural light.
Everywhere you look, contemporary and traditional style intersect. And just like The Natural Bedding Company, sustainability is woven into everything.
