Every builder has their own way that they operate. There is no right or wrong way, but there is always a better way. What is important is that you assess if the prospective builders processes are likely to have the ability to deliver a project in line with your expectations, your personal service requirements and your budget.

We recommend that you comprehensively assess each builder based upon the following criteria:

  • Project management
  • Price vs value
  • Time and ability to deliver
  • Quality – Service
  • Durability & longevity
  • Expertise
  • Risk mitigation
  • Value engineering
  • Scheduling
  • After sales service
  • Warranties

It’s also important to ascertain what type of relationship you would like to have with your builder. The most successful projects are based around a relationship built upon trust and this is best achieved through a partnering approach. A partnering approach focuses on building relationships between all stakeholders. This relationship goes way beyond the building of the home. Upon agreeing to building your new home, you will be connected to your builder for the building period and the next 7 years following, as this is typically the structural warranty period. It is therefore important that you feel comfortable in having a relationship for that period of time.
