Accoya Weatherboards

Website

Accoya is the world's leading high-technology wood. It matches or exceeds the durability, stability, and beauty of the very best tropical hardwoods. Accoya is created from sustainably sourced softwood.

Accoya Weatherboards

“The Accoya bevel-back weatherboards provided an ideal solution for this beachfront home. The stability of the product provided great peace of mind regarding durability and performance while the ability to apply dark colours provided excellent design freedom. The coastal tradition of weatherboard cladding has be maintained while allowing the flexibility of a modern form and aesthetic.” - TREVOR WILSON, ARCHITECTURE 37 LIMITED

Provided it is properly coated and installed in accordance with Timspec installation specifications, Accoya is warranted against undue movement (including shrinkage, swelling, cupping etc.). Timspec offers a CodeMark-approved weatherboard system in Accoya, to allow a stress-free job.

Dark Colours: Accoya is the only timber that we recommend to use for dark colours. Dark colours on other timbers attract more heat and this exacerbates drying-out, shrinkage, and swelling of the timber.

The current trend for darker colours on façades is proving that not all substrates are created equal. As such, we are conscious of the need to offer a timber product capable of supporting darker colours. Radiata pine is not suitable; and although western red cedar is more stable than pine, it is still not recommended for use with darker colours.

More on Accoya

Accoya is New Zealand grown Radiata Pine which has undergone a propriety acetylation process to produce a revolutionary timber product. This acetylation process alters the physical properties of the wood by transforming free hydroxyl groups (molecules that readily absorb and release moisture) in the timber into acetyl groups. The process is done at a purpose-built facility in The Netherlands.

The result is a durable, stable timber that equals or surpasses the leading timbers. Better still, the whole process does not add any toxic chemicals.

Accoya® wood is Class 1 durable ( 50 years above ground, 25 years in-ground!), which is comparable or better than the durability of hardwoods such as Jarrah, Rosewood and Teak. Plus Accoya wood is non-toxic and doesn't leech harmful chemicals.

Accoya® wood is also FSC certified and has class leading environmental credentials such as Cradle to Cradle™ Gold certification by the highly prestigious McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC) organization.

ProfilesTimber weatherboard systems are available in either vertical or horizontal styles.  They are both very well proven, so the real issue is in choosing the one you think looks better. Check them out right here.
