De Gournay Deco Dawn | Wallpaper

Hand-painted wallpaper. Bas Relief on Deep Rich Gold gilded paper.

Inspired by the lacquer and metal panels created by Jean Dunand in 1934 on board the ocean liner SS Normandie. More than just a ship, the Normandie was a spectacular display of the best French Art Deco craftsmanship and design. To recreate the carved effect of the original panels, we execute this design in our ‘bas relief’ technique and then gild the surface. This enhances the 3-dimensional texture and echoes the materials used in the original Dunand works.
