Italian Altar Celestial Starburst with Angelots C.1850
This gorgeous celestial starburst has been in my collection for about 15 years. Rather than have her hidden in my storage (as space is at a premium when your house is your showroom)!, I have decided to re home her. These pieces are seriously hard to come by (think hens teeth) and I think this example is particularly charming.
This Italian starburst would have graced the altar of a church with a statue of the Madonna displayed beneath and behind. The central panel of putti and clouds is comprised of plaster, and the celestial rays are gilded metal. A real statement piece to treat as an art work that would work well in a traditional or a more contemporary interior.
