As the name suggests, triple weave curtains are made of three interwoven layers, one of which is usually a black thread to add light-filtering and insulating properties. Triple weave curtains are popular for their beautiful soft finish and lovely drape. Triple weave linings are also available to add to other fabrics for increased light-dimming and insulation.
To line or not to line
Lining your curtains isn’t always possible (lined sheers? Maybe not), but a curtain lining is a sure-fire way to maximise most curtain’s primary purpose - blocking light, retaining heat, adding privacy, reducing noise, etc.
Block-out vs. dim-out
Triple-weave curtains are most often rated as dim-out curtains, meaning the block light but not as fully as blockout curtains. However, some triple-weave curtains can still block up to 95% of light, so depending on your chosen fabric they can be a great option.

Crafted With Care in New Zealand
We custom-make all our curtains and the vast majority of our blind range here in New Zealand, in sunny Nelson.
In our sewing workshop we use leading technology to ensure absolute accuracy and consistency. But when it comes to the finishing touches there is still no substitute for hand craftmanship. Fabric is always checked against swatches and thoroughly examined for inconsistencies before being cut, during making, and upon completion.
In our blind studio, we use technology for precision, but once cut, blinds are strung by hand and checked not only by the machinery, but the meticulous eye of our experienced makers.
For the few products that are made outside our factory, we can assure you our partner manufacturers have been chosen with care to meet our standards.

Quality and service that's timeless.
Russells was originally founded in 1929 by George P Russell as a furniture business. Over time the focus of the business shifted to window furnishings. It’s still locally owned and operated, now by Bill and Jenny Liddell, who draw on the long tradition of quality and service that four generations of the Russell family established. Today, Russells employs over 80 staff throughout the country with our head office and workshop still based in Nelson.
