Thoughts from the artist: I often find myself staring out to sea, especially now that I'm here in Waitara. But this work is more about longing to belong to Aotearoa the way only tangata whenua can be. Theirs are the sacred bodies who are called across the great ocean, at home in the Pacific, not tourists, just passing by
Elliott Collins won the prestigious Molly Morpeth Canaday Contemporary Art Award in 2024. He holds PhD in visual art from Auckland University of Technology. His work is held in significant private and institutional collections locally, including the Auckland Art Gallery, as well as internationally.
