Readymade curtains are an effortless solution for almost any space with regular ceilings and standard windows. A broad selection of fabrics and designs allow for easy mix-and-match with various interior designs and styles. At ArchiPro, we feature an impressive range of regular and large ready-made curtains, from sophisticated sheers and printed statement designs, to textured stripes and sumptuous silks.
Curtains are an easy way to make a change and uplift a space. Their role is functional as much as decorative - curtains add privacy, transmit or block external light, minimise the noise and even help control temperature levels.
Custom-made curtains are a great solution for high ceilings or non-common window designs, but they can also be costly and time-consuming to obtain. On the other hand, small and large readymade curtains are available in an endless variety of patterns, colours and types, quick and easy to install.
The standard height for hanging the curtains is between fifteen and twenty centimetres above the window frame. If the room features a very high or very short ceiling, then playing with rules, creative hanging, unique curtain rods and finials can help to balance out the room proportions.
Accurate measurement is essential.
To determine the correct curtain length, the first step is measuring the distance between the floor and the top of the window. The resulting dimension is the base on which to add extra height above the window for hanging. Depending on the desired style, the final result will also have added additional length for puddling, or a couple of centimetres subtracted for floating.
There are three basic ways to hang curtains. The floating style ends at about 2-3 cm distance from the floor. If the curtains touch the floor, it's called the "kiss" style and requires very precise measurements with every detail taken into account. Long curtains "puddle" on the floor and forgive minor measurement mistakes.
To determine the correct width, the base dimension is the window's horizontal size, plus the sides the curtain needs to cover. The final result should be doubled, in order to ensure the proper pleating.
Lined opaque readymade curtains are more convenient for harsh weather conditions. Lining provides better structure but also allows more control over temperature levels. In winter months, a lined curtain makes a better barrier against the external cold. Similarly, during summer, it protects the front curtain layer from fading under harsh UV rays. Finally, lining ensures more privacy, too.
The standard lining helps the curtains drape better and provide a superior, uniform look from the outside.
Readymade blackout curtains are highly functional features, ideal for kids rooms and bedrooms to block the excessive light from outside. They also keep the space cooler in the summer and warmer during winter. Blackout curtains are best to stay open during the day, whether by side opening or with the help of curtain tiebacks & holdbacks.
Sheer curtains are ideal for decorative purposes, whether alone or in combination with thermal curtains. They boast a light and breezy feel and allow maximal accumulation of daylight.
The correct size, design and material depend on the room style as much as the curtain's primary purpose. A thermal blind, for instance, is very different from a decorative sheer window treatment. It's almost always floor-length, while the latter one can come in a variety of forms.
The right choice of material also depends on local climate conditions. Darker colours can fade in the sun after a while. Also, they can accumulate unwanted heat. Transparent curtain fabrics are ideal for rooms that don't require sun protection - but combined with blackout curtains, they can fit anywhere.
Two panels may be a more convenient solution for frequent opening/closing. The same applies to ready-made eyelet curtains.
