Composite fence is a blend of two or more dissimilar materials. Specifics can differ from one product to another, but the core concept remains-the mixture is synthesised from components with different benefits, in order to make something more superior.
What is Composite Fencing?
The key materials for manufacturing composite timber fencing are recycled ground plastic and sawdust. Resins are added to hold them together, and a board is made by compressing the mixture into high-pressure moulds. In general, composite fencing can contain from 50% to 100% of recycled materials; including milk cartons, grocery bags and other discarded plastic waste. The wood part sometimes includes leftover wood pulp from paper mills.
Composite Fences Are Long Lasting
Although most manufacturers give a 20-years guarantee, composite fencing can last up to 50 years. In the meantime, the hassle of maintaining, repairing, and subsequently replacing segments is minimal, which makes composite fencing a popular choice. The longevity of this type of fence outweighs its initial cost, making it a wise investment choice.
You can expect to see some minor changes over time. If the wooden content is high, fading or bleeding can occur. Under the influence of UV rays and different weather elements, wood oils and the tannins inside them will be gradually washed out. That fading is rarely prominent, still, it’s effortless to seal and re-paint composite fence boards once you start disliking their appearance.
Vinyl VS. Composite Fencing Boards
Vinyl has been proved as a reliable solution for an alternative fencing product. It can replace composite timber fencing in performance up to a point; however, there are some constraints. Natural surface finishing and durability go in favour of composites. Furthermore, composite fencing is typically stronger, with higher density and thickness so that it can hold up better in heat and cold.
Is Composite Fence worth the cost?
Composite fencing presents a mid-range solution, more affordable than hardwood but still slightly pricier than softwood fencing. However, you should always reconsider the initial price in terms of the overall cost. Wood dwells on maintenance, which means that various treatments, cleaning products and sealers will come along as a regular investment. From that point of view, composite fencing presents a more affordable solution for years to come.
