Can a chainsaw cut anything?

Chainsaws are mostly used to cut wood; however, they can cut other materials such as ice, and even certain metals as well. It’s not recommended to use your chainsaw to cut other materials as they can quickly dull the blade and even damage the motors or chain of the saw. When it comes to cutting logs, you can work out what you can cut by knowing the length of your blade and the diameter of the log. For example, a 16-inch blade can cut a wooden log with a diameter of 14 inches or smaller.

What is the life expectancy of a chainsaw?

Most quality chainsaws have a five-year warranty. However, you can expect them to last at least 10 years. With proper maintenance, you might be able to extend the life expectancy to over 20 years. When you notice rattling, broken teeth or difficulty cutting, it could be time for a replacement.
