It all started for Nick at age 10 when his parents won an electric guitar. He was already learning piano, but to Nick guitar was so much cooler. All through high school he played solo classical performances and played in a range of diverse bands - jazz, pop, heavy metal and rock & roll at pubs and festivals.

After high school still in love with music Nick made the decision to further his career in the music production industry. He decided to study Audio Engineering at JMC academy and received high distinction. As he pursued audio, he worked in many Sydney venues, TV studios, pubs, clubs, theatres and live festival events. Nick’s highlight was being on staff at Sydney Opera House and the exposure to a broad variety of accomplished artistic people.

After many years of working late nights, Nicks entrepreneurship mindset started to kick in. Nick knew there had to be more and he decided to extend himself. Electrical was a strategic add on to his current skill set and he got a day job as an electrician apprentice.

The company he trained under specialised in electrical for swimming pools predominantly located in Sydney’s Northern Beaches and surrounding suburbs. He learnt a full array of electrical skills and enjoyed seeing some exclusive houses in Sydney’s premier locations.

At the end of his 4year apprenticeship still in love with sound and music Nick was often overstretched as he still often juggled many gigs at night and started work at 7am the next day. The stretch on finances, crazy hours and the addition of a wife and son had Nick decide to leave electrical for a time and he took a full-time job as a service technician for The PA People.

With his growing family at home, it meant he could spend more time with them at the end of the day and the pay was always going to be better than an apprentice wage. The PA People serviced a range of customers from small schools and churches to large venues like Sydney International Airport, Parliament house the SCG and ANZ Stadium.

At this stage, Nick and his family decided to move to Tauranga New Zealand where they purchased Alliance AV.

Alliance AV has been operating in the Bay Of Plenty for over 50 years and has seen 3 different owners. During this time it took many forms including tv repairs, VHS, DVD enhancements and Av for Motorhomes. It saw the change from Analogue to digital broadcast with the introduction of Freeview across NZ.
With the sale of the business in 2015 the split-off of the motorhomes came and the addition of electrical was added under the new ownership. The addition of Electrical although it saw a large increase in work took Alliance away from the core product of AV. Refocusing and using the strengths in commercial Av some key clients have been acquired and larger installations are now becoming a greater part of the Alliance AV story and one it hopes will continue on into the future.
