Ben Golby's Traditional Construction

The team at BGT works hard to create a story behind each new build project, using traditional styles and long-lasting quality techniques. Each project is a work of art, representing the individual client’s own dreams and desires. A strong recycled, rustic theme reflects Ben’s emphasis on environmentally ethical and sustainable practices in much of his work.

Ben Golby’s Traditional Construction specialises in adding some global cultured flavour to the South Island’s unique, alpine rustic building style. Native timbers, recycled beams and hardwoods and exterior cladding systems made from exotic timbers are all handcrafted, along with other materials, to achieve stand-out results.

Ben and his team love working with old recycled timber, dismantled bridge beams and parts that are cleverly woven into unique features, tailor-made to suit each home.

This experience and the traditional aspects and values that Ben brings to each build place him locally among the most qualified heritage build carpenters in his field. Each project creates or preserves unique pieces that exemplify superior wooden craftsmanship and quality.

Ben gained invaluable experience in heritage builds, including barn and loft conversions, back in the United Kingdom where he grew up. This included the restoration and renovation of a nine-bedroom Georgian manor in Stratford.

Now he is able to combine his love of heritage restoration with the demand for his skills on more modern builds. Ben has a real passion for rebirthing old recycled beams and recreating historic features. No matter what the style or era, he always insists on using the traditional joinery techniques he trained in.
