If you are planning a kitchen or bathroom renovation or building a house, Clipsal can help you to get set up for life.

This is Clipsal Electric Home Design.

The History of Clipsal

Clipsal began in 1920 when Alfred Gerard introduced a revolutionary range of clip-on metal conduit fittings. Designed to solve the challenge of varying conduit sizes, these fittings could "clip all sizes"—a feature that inspired the name "Clipsal."

From these humble beginnings, Clipsal quickly became a trusted name in Australian electrical innovation. In 2003, Clipsal was acquired by Schneider Electric, forming a powerful partnership that combined local ingenuity with global reach.

Today, Clipsal by Schneider Electric leads the Australian and Asia-Pacific markets in electrical accessories. The brand continues to evolve, expanding into smart home technology, integrated control systems, and data communications—delivering future-ready solutions for homes and businesses.

Prioritising Safety and Protection

With increased time spent indoors, it's crucial to have optimal safety solutions in place.

Our products help keep you, your family, and your possessions safe. So consider how you can help protect your family.

While security cameras, electric switches, power points, and home automation are exciting, it's equally important to prioritise safety with smoke alarms, motion sensors, surge protectors, and timers.

Our solutions help create a secure environment, giving you peace of mind.

Trust Clipsal to provide top-quality safety solutions for your home.

Smoke alarms you can depend on
A significant number of home fires occur each year in Australia. Our sense of smell decreases when sleeping, so early warning systems are crucial, especially with smouldering fires, to allow enough time to escape.

Photoelectric smoke alarms are a small investment as they help protect what matters most to you; your family, home and possessions, both valuable and irreplaceable.

Deter intruders

Make sure you only have welcome guests by installing safety products for lighting and security around your home.

A well-lit home deters intruders, and our range of energy-efficient sensors, lights and smart home options can help discourage unwanted visitors and let you keep an eye on things remotely.

Clipsal motion sensors will illuminate any area in which heat movement is detected, while daylight switches can be set to come on at a certain time to keep parking areas, paths or entrance ways well-lit.

Get to know your electrical switchboard

For many, the home electrical switchboard or meter box is a mystery. It only pops to mind if we have to open it up and flick a switch when we’ve lost power. But beyond that it's vital for your home electrical, helping keep your family, home and possessions safe.

Here at Clipsal, we recommend 3 levels of safety solutions for electrical protection of your home.

Product Compliance

Do the Products You Use Comply?

As Australia’s number one electrical brand, Clipsal by Schneider Electric’s greatest concern is the quality and safety of electrical products installed into people’s homes and workplaces. If you’re an electrical contractor and purchase or install inferior products that don’t comply with Australian Standards, you could risk your licence and hard-earned reputation. You could even risk potential fines and jail terms. Most importantly, you could endanger people’s lives and their property.

At Clipsal by Schneider Electric we design and manufacture quality electrical products that comply with all relevant Australian Standards. You can be confident with the service and support you receive when you buy genuine Clipsal products from a trusted wholesaler. Don’t risk it… it’s just not worth it.

Electrical product compliance

Why is product compliance so important?

  • To prevent unsafe (substandard) non-compliant electrical equipment being sold in the Australian electrical equipment market.
  • To reduce risk of problem installations, and ensure the safety of electrical workers and the general public.
  • To create an even market, restricting the opportunities for non-compliant product suppliers.

What is the problem with inferior products?

  • Inferior products will often fail to meet all the relevant Australian Standards for that particular product type. This is a huge concern because the Standards are designed specifically to protect people and property from harm.
  • By design, genuine products are expected to have a much longer life than copy products.
  • Inferior products may also have a much higher failure rate.
  • Genuine products are designed carefully and specifically for their purpose with applied research and knowledge developed prior to manufacture.
  • Genuine products are easy to install and include (where applicable) installation instructions and diagrams.
  • Low priced products, especially those that don’t comply, are designed to the limits of the material meaning that if they are put under load, they may overheat and possibly burn out.

Associated Risks

The risks with using electrical products that don’t complyIndustry Situation

  • Within the electrical industry, there are a number of new manufacturing companies entering the market.
  • Some of these companies manufacture products which are deceptively similar to Clipsal or other manufacturer’s products.
  • These products, whilst appearing genuine, are often made from inferior materials with little regard for meeting stated ratings or safety requirements.
  • They will often not conform nor meet mandatory safety regulations.
  • They will often fail independent certification testing.
  • They can be sold deceptively and often at prices below market level to then be installed into homes and businesses and electrical infrastructure.

The main issues and risks are:

To people

  • House burning
  • Risk to life or significant health and safety issues.
  • Risk to property or property damage.
  • Can overheat or cause short circuits.
  • Risk of fires, shocks or explosions.

To the industry

  • Issues of public liability.
  • Loss of confidence in reputable brands.
  • Risk of litigation against distributors or installers.
  • Damage to reputation of all electrical contractors.
  • Decline of reinvestment into the electrical industry.
  • Decline of new product development.
  • Loss of business for manufacturers of genuine product, meaning loss of markets and people’s jobs.
  • Infringement of intellectual property rights.

Don’t Risk It

Small price. Big Risk. Do the products you use comply?

Within the electrical industry there is an increasing concern regarding the number of electrical products being sold that don’t comply with Australian Standards. These products, whilst appearing genuine, are often made from inferior materials with little regard for meeting stated ratings or safety requirements.

Why is this a problem?

Because it places everyone at risk! Products that don’t comply with Australian Standards mean they are potentially electrically unsafe and are more susceptible to causing harm to people and property.

Inferior products also create significant potential problems for electrical contractors, wholesalers and the industry as well.

If you are an electrical contractor or wholesaler who buys or installs electrical products that don’t meet the Australian Standards, you will be placing yourself at risk. Your livelihood and your business could face potential fines, civil and criminal action. Your profits and hard earned reputation are also in danger.

Most importantly, you place other people’s lives and property at serious risk. So remember to ask yourself whether it’s worth the risk.

The Risks | Product Compliance | Legal

If you choose to buy products online consider the following:

  • Always buy from trusted on-line stores.
  • It’s harder to determine the legitimacy of products and distributors on-line.
  • It’s safest to purchase from the same, trusted wholesalers that you buy from in-store.
  • If you buy from an overseas distributor/website, you will be legally recognised as the distributor of the product in Australia, and will be liable should a product fail or cause harm.
  • Check your products bought on-line carefully to determine their validity as genuine Clipsal products.
  • Look for branded packaging, instructions, warranty statements and the correct Certification markings.

Whether you buy on-line or in person, don’t risk it – buy from a trusted wholesaler.
