Our Story
COMAG’s roots go back to 1967, when Bruce Magan Ltd started as a small, five-person team in Matamata. Things took off in the 1970s when we moved from local domestic work into large-scale commercial and industrial projects, including hotel contracts for Dominion Breweries.
The business grew steadily until the 1987 financial crash, which hit hard. After a few tough years, Bruce and a group of long-time employees decided to take a new approach. In 1994, COMAG was born — a co-operative company built on shared ownership, strong values, and a vision for the future.
Today, we’re a team of over 50 specialists — plumbers, gasfitters, roofers, drainlayers, and admin pros — backed by top-notch gear, strong safety standards, and a reliable network of contractors. We’re big on training apprentices, working across New Zealand, and staying connected to our roots in Matamata through local support and sponsorships.
