“Recently, after an initial meeting to discuss our requirements, we contracted Jared Copland from Copland Building Ltd to take responsibility for construction of a new farm shed, designed through Garden Place ITM in Mosgiel. The shed is on two levels and includes both a concreted enclosed section of some 75m2, and an open metalled section of some 40m2. Jared first took responsibility for preparing and submitting our Building Consent application, which he did quickly and efficiently; and then arranged the contractor for final site preparation, ensuring this work was completed properly. The initial construction work included positioning and securing the large poles which form the basis of the shed structure and preparing for the pouring of a concrete floor. This work was undertaken carefully and thoroughly, and consequently – despite the intervention of a major and unexpected snowfall which held things up for several days at that point – the actual pour was both quick and successful. The building work which followed — including completing the framework, the roof and wall cladding, and normal finishing work — clearly demonstrated Jared’s professional skills and standards, his thoughtful attention to detail, his strategic approach to project planning, and his commitment to ensuring a result which would meet both regulatory and our requirements. He communicated openly and positively, listened to any questions or concerns we raised, and always gave clear responses and explanations. His assistant was also a skilled tradesman, and Jared ensured the work undertaken was always of a good standard. They were also both pleasant to have around, and we felt very comfortable that they were completely trustworthy to leave with access to our facilities and equipment. One of our particular requests was that we should be able to provide some of our own labour for parts of the job where this was appropriate while recognising that Jared would at all times be “the boss” of the project. Despite a significant age difference between us, he accepted this willingly, gave clear directions about how he wanted things done, and we were able to work as a congenial team. With the building work for this job now completed, we would certainly be approaching Jared first for any future construction jobs, whether it was another new shed, a new home, or an alteration. We also feel confident in recommending his work to others.”
