Cornthwaite Architects

Cornthwaite Architects is an agile, principal-led design studio based in Auckland. We deliver premium residential architecture where high-end design seamlessly meets advanced technical execution. Our portfolio spans bespoke coastal new builds, complex heritage restorations and high-stakes architectural remediation.

Our Philosophy: Do It Once, Do It Right

We believe that architectural beauty is only as good as its technical execution. Generally, buildings leak because they are not detailed correctly or lacked appropriate detailing in the first instance. To prevent this, we apply a forensic level of precision to our architectural drawings and documentation, ensuring every project is highly resilient and fully compliant with Auckland Council and E2/AS1 standards.

Expert Guidance, Enduring Results

When you partner with us, you work directly with Principal Architect John Cornthwaite. We maintain a deliberately compact studio to ensure your project's critical construction details and forensic waterproofing lines are never passed down to junior staff.

From site analysis and concept design through to construction documentation and final council sign-off, your investment is protected by decades of senior expertise. We transform problematic properties into striking, structurally unassailable masterpieces that celebrate character, soul, and longevity.
