Craftsman Cabinets was established in 2018 and has quickly built a reputation for designing, manufacturing and installing high-quality bespoke kitchens, bathrooms, offices, laundries and other home and workspaces.

Director and craftsman, Jason Michie, is a fully qualified Cabinet & Furniture Maker with over 10 years of passion and experience. Craftsman Cabinets is 100% New Zealand owned and operated from a workshop based in Patumahoe, Auckland – which is also undergoing construction.

Along the way, we’ve learned a lot about building and constructing bespoke designs for our clients which is why we developed our Craftsman Design Process. This highlights how we work closely with local designers and architects to construct personalised projects with a client’s unique style in mind.

All aspects of the process are handled by Jason thanks to his dedication to quality and strategic partnerships with design experts. This is how quality craftsmanship is maintained and Jason ensures the best available materials are used on each project.

Craftsman Cabinets Key Features:

  • Sourcing and using only the highest quality hardware and materials;
  • Specialised cabinetry assembly detail;
  • All projects are individually designed and tailored to meet the living and functionality requirements for each client.

Meet the Craftsman: Jason Michie

Jason is a born craftsman. One of his fondest memories was spent working alongside his grandfather in his workshop, making stuff. The first thing he made as a seven year old was a timber key ring.

The ability to build, shape, remodel, design and construct saw him topping the class in wood work at high school and he was on track to becoming a highly sought-after cabinet maker / joiner. A part-time job during school with a local cabinet-maker set him on the path to construction, and the day he walked out of the school gates for the last time, it was towards his apprenticeship.

Being on the tools in his dream job no doubt came with issues that needed fixing; all part of the territory. But soon enough he earned his spot in 2013 Apprentice of the Year, winning Trainee of the year and the supreme Apprentice of the Year.
Having spent the last 10 years dreaming up design projects for clients, it was his own personal project that helped him discover his calling.

Jason and his fiancé Rebecca took on a grand old lady ready for her own transformation; a 1930’s bungalow. Armed with their new and often complex experiences of stripping back the layers of a yesteryear home, and adding heritage-styled details with modern technology, Jason wanted to share these and his craftsman expertise to provide an exceptional experience to customers in transforming their existing home, or help them design their dream spaces in their new build.

As both the creative and the craftsman for Craftsman Cabinets, he’s never too far from his workshop or clients visualising designs and bringing them to life.

A keen adventure and sportsman, you can catch him down the road at the local fields passing a footy ball around while allowing the creative juice build up; if he’s not renovating or doing something up that is.

Our Craftsman Design Process

Step 1 – TALK

Get in touch to make an appointment for a consultation with our craftsman Jason and one of our designers.

Step 2 – MEET

We will discuss your ideas and gather information which will include key features, functions, aesthetics, budget and time frames. This information will become our brief on which we will craft and build your design.

Step 3 – DESIGN PROPOSAL

After our first meeting we will take all information back to the office and create 3D concepts of what was discussed. We will either email the designs to you or arrange a time to meet to discuss our thoughts. We aim to get the design right the first time but sometimes it takes a couple of options merged together to achieve the optimum result.

Step 4 – QUOTE

Once you are happy with your design, we will provide you with a detailed quote and our terms of trade. On acceptance of your quote we will produce an invoice for a 50% deposit, which allows materials to be ordered for manufacture of your new project.

Step 5 – SITE MEASURE & MANUFACTURE

Upon receipt of your deposit, site measures are taken at relevant points in the process and again once your space is at a stage of completion to allow for accurate measurements. A project timeline will be confirmed and depending on project, we’ll discuss any extra tradespeople who need to be involved.

Step 6 – INSTALLATION

Once manufacture is completed we will be in touch with you and the other trades to confirm your installation date. At this stage we will issue a progress invoice of 45%. Installation can take several days, however depending on the complexity and size of your job it may be necessary for us to make further visits as the rest of the project continues.

Step 7 – FINAL SIGN OFF

Jason personally oversees the installation and/or delivery of all items and takes great pride in ensuring his customers are delighted with the finished product. At this stage the final 5% payment is due.

FOLLOW UP SERVICE

Approximately three months after your project has been completed we will contact you again to make sure you are enjoying your new space and are completely satisfied with our workmanship. During these first few months of use in your new space hardware will be wearing in, doors will begin to close more freely and draws will run more smoothly. With this, you may find they need of adjusting which is quite normal. One of our team will visit you to complete any required adjustments and continue to give you support throughout the life of your space.

“Aneia Warner Salon was on a strict time frame and needed Cabinetry that was fit for purpose, Functional, Looked the part and installed within our timeframe (2 weeks in Level 3 Covid 19 Lockdown). Jason at Craftsman Cabinets achieved all of this while working around all other trades complying with Covid 19 Rules. We couldn't recommend Jason and Craftsman Cabinets enough. Jason's communication and work ethic left AWS feeling reassured and in capable hands. The cabinetry was of the highest standards and the product he provided was just perfect. Everyday I am complimented by guests/clients by the beautiful design and finish. All future work will be sent to Jason as not only does he provide more then what we expect but in a timely and obliging manner to deliver my needs when required. When I need Cabinetry again I will go to Jason without a second thought.”
