Eco Features
At EcoBuilt Homes, we bring together engineers and contractors with an environmental focus on renewable energy, sustainable materials, water conservation and site development. Working closely with you from the design stage, we will present a range of options to enhance and maximise your home’s energy efficiency. These can include:
Rainwater storage
Rainwater is a free, perpetually-renewing water supply. Installing a rainwater tank is relatively simple and inexpensive, and the benefits are ongoing. Rainwater is a good source of water for using on your garden. It can also be used for washing clothes, flushing the toilet, and – when properly treated or purified – for drinking and other household uses.
Deep eaves for sun/shade
Shading of the building and outdoor spaces reduces summer temperatures, improves comfort and saves energy. Direct sun can generate the same heat as a single bar radiator over each square metre of a surface. Shading can block up to 90 per cent of this heat.
Ventilation
Warm air in the building can be allowed to rise and flow out upper openings to the outside, forcing cool outside air to be drawn into the building naturally through openings in the lower areas
Exterior cladding
Use of locally manufactured materials such as plantation grown timbers like macrocarpa, eucalyptus, cypress or recycled hardwoods.
Solar power and water
North facing solar panels to harness the sun’s energy to warm and heat your home and water.
Electrical
Millions of dollars are wasted by stand-by appliances each year. An easily accessed and monitored power switch turns off all stand-by appliances when not required.
Heating
A stylish solid fuel burner strategically located in the home provides warmth and boosts hot water heating.
Floors
The sun’s warmth is absorbed during the day and then radiated into the home as the temperature cools at night. This is created by the density of the floor (concrete, brick, tiles or earth) storing heat from the sun and then slowly radiating the heat back into the surrounding area as the outside temperature cools.
