Our Commitment to Sustainability
Good for you and the planet
Flooring may only play a small part in our lives, but it can have a damaging impact on nature’s eco-system. At Ecodure, we do all we can to make sure that our impact is a good one. We aim to supply nature-friendly products that are made from renewable materials and following use they can be re-purposed or recycled.
Our flagship Duracore® range, is made using sustainable elements, ensuring each board is both long lasting and reusable. Almost all unused or waste elements are recycled during that manufacturing process. With sustainability in mind, patented construction and manufacturing techniques lead the rigid-core hybrid flooring market and have secured Duracore® the coveted Green Guard Gold accreditation.
Duracore's latest acoustic flooring range, DurcaoreSilent®, takes sustainability one step further by embedding the acoustic layer deep within the core meaning no need for additional underlay or glues. Quieter, cleaner and greener all round.
- Green Guard Gold Accredited
- 100% Reusable
- Production Waste Recycled
- No Silica or Phthalates, Low VOCS
- Patented core technology to reduce the broad amount of raw materials utilised
Frequently Asked Questions
How long will my floor last?
With the correct care and maintenance all Ecodure floors should last for many years. As Oak is a medium dent resistant wood, it’s unlikely it will need sanding to remove unsightly dents for many years, as is often the case with other softer species. If sanding is needed, there is plenty of thickness in all boards for several sandings. Both plank and coating have a warranty.
Bjelin Hardened Oak is designed to be 3x harder than engineered oak & finished so as not to be re-sanded.
Both Duracore and Coretec rigid floors have a limited lifetime warranty - they are that good.
How do I install my floor?
Floating or glue down installations are both possible depending on the sub-floor conditions and product choice. We have developed common sense Installation Guides which give more advice, please refer to either Installation on Concrete or Installation on Timber Substrate in our Additional Information download link. Be sure to pass your installation manual on to your chosen installer so they can follow warranty requirements.
How much does it cost to install?
Do speak direct to your chosen independent installer but as a guide, the labour cost of installing laminates, hybrids and Engineered floors per m2 is similar. That said, a glue down floor has the added cost of moisture barrier application over concrete and adhesive to connect the flooring to the subfloor. A floated floor has difference site prep requirements and usually requires an underlay and/or a moisture barrier over concrete. The use of trims will differ too depending on which method of install you select.
Each installation is site and detail specific, call us or forward your plans and we will help you decipher potential install costs and offer job specific guidance to pass to independent installers to ensure the best finish possible.
What is the difference between a floating and glued down floor?
A glued floor is permanently fixed to the substrate with a specialised flexible adhesive. This must be left to cure properly before the floor can be walked on. A floating floor uses the gravity or mass weight of the product along with perimeter trims to hold it in place. Floating floors also use a special underlay which is crush-proof, providing comfort cushioning, acoustic and moisture management, as well as being an excellent draught excluder!
A floating floor is very slightly softer to walk on, while a glue down floor is subtly firmer. Not all installation situations or products are suitable for a glue down floor, while a floating floor can usually be installed regardless of circumstances. For more detailed advice on installation of each specific flooring product, please go to individual product pages and download the installation guides. To delve a little deeper on floating installation, read our blog 'The Art of the Floating Floor'. For specifiers and architects we have a more detailed specification, available on request.
Can I have matching stairs?
Yes, we stock stair nosing's to match all our flooring – the treads and risers created from the flooring boards.
Will sun change the colour?
The majority of our hard flooring uses high quality coatings, stains & imaging designed to protect from UV & other damage, but it’s possible that colour may change over time, due to the amount of UV in the NZ environment.
In regard to wood flooring, unlike old-fashioned solvent- based coatings which can darken or turn yellow almost immediately, water based polyurethanes are a huge advance; however, the usual common-sense precautions we take against our harsh sun should apply. In areas exposed to direct sunlight, like with any other wood, carpet or tiled flooring; UV protection to the windows, curtains or blinds are recommended and also to avoid placing rugs, pot plants, etc on the floor as these will leave obvious marks when removed. If there is a colour change it is minimised visually, by allowing the floor an equal and even gradual change.
How is the floor finished at the edges?
Floating Floors: The edge of the floors need an even expansion allowance (product specific). There is no hard and fast rule for this – the bigger the floor the bigger the allowance. This can be provided under the skirtings and gib board and under kitchen cabinetry. Around doors we can supply trims that match the flooring and at floor to ceiling windows a powder coated aluminium trim is used which neatens the edge and covers any expansion or shrinkage.
Glue Down Wood Floors: An expansion gap is always recommended around the perimeter which can be covered by skirtings or under negative detail wall finishes. Close finishes to joinery can often be silicon finished and where timber meets carpet, a flat bar is often used to protect the edge of the wood floor and finish with a minimal seamless look.
The best procedure is to remove skirting boards and leave them off until the floor is down, this enables the perimeter to be seen. If this is not possible, skirtings and architraves will need to be under-cut with a special saw.
Will I be able to have underfloor heating?
In general, yes - the majority of our floors can be used over underfloor heating embedded into the concrete slab or within the correct depth of leveling compound. The guidance varies product to product so please contact us direct for further advice.
